    Re: help me out please

I'm getting the impression by looking at video cards that pci-express ones are better. What do i need to be compatible with these? Get a new motherboard? Or are agp just as good?

Edit: Do I have to buy a card that has the name of my motherboard in it (asus)?

Second Edit: I should buy one with 256mb dedicated memory (thats right i think) over one with 128?

    I'm thinking of buying this
and then getting 1gb of ram. Would my pc dominate after that?

Pcie cards aren't necessarily better, they're just a newer technology that has replaced agp. You'd probably need a new mobo, processor, and quite possibly ram to make the transition to pcie, which is why I recommended you keep saving and build yourself a new computer from scratch.

No, you don't have to buy a card that has the name of your motherboard in it, you can buy from any manufacturer you feel like.

You shouldn't always buy a card that has more memory, for example:an nvidia 6600 256mb looks like it would be better because it has more memory, but in fact the 6600gt would blow it away, even though it only has 128mb of memory.

That graphics card is fine, and with the extra ram, it should help you speed up your computer, though your machine won't necessarily dominate. Hope this helps. :)

If you had 2 gigs of ram, half on high rest on med at least, with 1 gig, most on med probably. :)

ok thanks for the help guys! I really appreciate it. I bought a radeon x850 pro. GOD DAMN I love the graphics this thing dishes out. Its a good vid card right? I put everything on the highest on bf2 and tried some single player, oh man.. so much better! It did stutter a lot though, lilke fluxuating from 40 to 20 when there are explosions or suddenly 180 degree turning. If I buy one more gig of ram will I be able to smoothly play it with those settings (50fps ish)? I don't think i can go back to medium haha.

Yep, if you can get that extra RAM, you would be sweet. And yes the x850 is a great card, one of the top in the ATI reange, the only things higher i think are the new 1xxx cards.
