Opterons OC like crazy if you have a CABYE or CABNE stepping, even if you have a CABGE stepping, you could still prob overclock to 3ghz on stock HSF.
well the san diego cores i've seen OC pretty well, people can pretty regularly get it to 2.6 on stock HS/F (and btw im not sure thats why im asking, but aren't opterons worse than Athlon 64s, whats the diff between them?)

No, the Opterons are in the general mind, a workstation/server cpu (like the xeon from intel). But they're not, they were just released in s939 like a couple of weeks ago, before they were only s940 (mainly workstation cpu socket). Opterons just like Athlon 64's if you get the s939 models, it's just they can overclock REALLY good, people have overclocked with a Opteron 146 from 2.0 ghz, to over 3 ghz on stock cooling (that's over a 50% oc, that's crazy in otherwords). THe reason most people don't have em is they are new, and people still have the assumption they are strictly for workstations/servers. Which is why me and some other dudes on the forum are trying to spread the word on opterons and how good they are.

The opterons are also tested before shipping out, and are usually higher quality athlon's and fx cores that couldn't reach the proper speed.
