what's a good upgrade for my radeon 9600xt?

i have a very old radeon 9600xt with 256mb and i'm thinking of upgrading it. i can't use those newer graphics card that uses it's own power supply. anything that's not too old and can run BF2 fairly well (meaning good FPS) and below $150 would be awesome!

    specs:

    amd athlon xp 2200+ (1.8ghz)
    1024mb ram
    ati radeon 9600xt 256mb

with the 5.10 and 5.11 catalyst drivers, my FPS is about 20-30 everytime (below 20 FPS 40% of the time). but, ever since i went back to using the old omega 5.9 drivers, my FPS IMPROVED significantly! it now hovers in the high 30s to low 40s. so, the new catalyst drivers hates me. :/

also, i'm gonna add another 512mb of ram because my mobo can only handle 1.5gb of ram. :/ i don't think i'm gonna upgrade my cpu/mobo (or anything else for that matter) anytime soon because most of my money will go to school next sem.

    thanks!

(mods, i know i posted this in the wrong forum but the support forum doesn't get much views.)

        poor? 9800 pro, 6600

        other wise: 6800, 6800GT

if you have money to spend then get the best you can. 7800 is a fine card.

7800 does not come in AGP. He said he didn't want a new MOBO, also said $150 max....

I upgraded from a 9600PRO to a 6800GT and BF2 now plays nice and smooth. Did cost ÂŁ200 though, so might be a little over your budget. I'd say a 6600GT is probably pretty good and affordable...

sorry, serves me right for not reading his thread, I went off the title.

                in that case....9800pro or higher.

what CPU do u have? Ram?? all this things make a difference.

                example:

                I run a AMD 2500+ @ 2.0GHz
                1.75GB PC2700
                Radeon 9800Pro

I play the game with 4x FSAA, and 8X AF
                1024x768 32 bit.

all in game settings on HIGH
                view distance at max,
texture settings at high, shadows maxed out, etc etc...

runs perfectly smooth on 64 man servers.

course when I only had 768mb of ram it ran for **** online. RAM made the biggest difference.

you had better be quick becuase decent AGP graphics cards are becomeing vey difficult to find.

the 6800GT AGP has now been replaced by the pci-e only 7800GT and even the 6600GT seems to have started to be pci-e only.

9800 pro anything higher and you´ll bottleneck it with the c.p.u.
