if you have money to spend then get the best you can. 7800 is a fine card.

yeah, i'm leaning towards the 9800Pro. i'd like to buy another ATI card.

7800 does not come in AGP. He said he didn't want a new MOBO, also said $150 max....

I have a 9600XT.. i can play on medium without a single FPS spike..

i play on all low settings (except for Geometry which is set to medium) and my FPS will still drop below 20 sometimes. but on average, i get about 35-45 FPS.

almost everything closed when i ctrl+alt+del, almost every services stopped on services.msc, PCI latency at 64, agp aperture at 256MB.

btw, should i get the 9800XT or 9800Pro? what's the difference?

So who cares if the CPU is the bottleneck? It will still perform better than something that doesn't bottleneck the CPU. It just won't be at it's full potential. That way also he won't be stuck with some ****ty gfx card when he does upgrade the CPU.
