True, but the bfg one is clocked higher than that, at 580/1750.

Wreck why are you so surprised that the 512mb version of the card isn't "crushing Ati" as you hoped. It's the same exact core and only using higher clock speeds. For example the 6800 Ultra 512 isn't a big difference from the regular 6800Ultra. The reason that GTX 512 performs better is because it's clocked more than 120mhz higher than the regular GTX. But it uses the same 110nm core. Meanwhile ATI's all new 90nm is getting less FPS. I don't understand why you expected something "amazing" from a card that's already been out minus the extra 256mbs of ram.

Because they are not using the same ram. The core is the same yes.

You seriously expected some huge performance boost that would kill everything by not using the same ram? If not for the high core clocks, this card wouldn't be that much of a performance boost.

they went with samsung RAM on the 7800GTX 512 didn't they....that's why they can push the clocks on the RAM?

Lets see why I'd expect more performance from the 7800 GTX 512. Maybe it's the 120mhz faster core, and 400mhz faster ram.

                7800 GTX 512
                550mhz core
                1700mhz memory
                24 pipes

                x1800 XT 512
                625mhz core
                1500mhz memory
                (only) 16 pipes

One more thing what does the process have to do with anything. I'd like to remind you a .13 micron Intel is faster than a .90nm intel at the same clock speed. The architechture is way more important than the process of the card.

Honestly, with all the "fanboy alarms" that are only against pro-ati, or somewhat supporters of ATi, i should say yu should be a nvidia fanboy. We don't need somebody to yell out "ATI FANBOY ALARM" everytime somebody says something like X850XTPE>6800Ultra or something like that. Just stop with the fanboy alarms, it's a waste of a post, if you post, post something worth a damn. Next time i see "FANBOY ALARM" I"m reporting you.

who would spend that much on a 512mb 7800, when you could get 2 7800-256 cards in sli for cheaper.

and to answer the question on "who would spend the money" I will, just not right now.....knowing the video card market, give it another month and the super L33t versions will come out with like core clocks at 800mhz and ram at 2100 :) with some pure platinum case fan.

I agree that the new GTX 512mb is better than the X1800XT. But still, that "ATI FANBOY ALERT" is annoying, and people can find out on their own that people are fanboys.

Well if someone doesn't look at the plain facts and refuses to accept the truth, and sticks with the inferior announcing that the inferior is better...then they are a fanboy.

People fail to remember that both companies are using different architechures (spelling?) so they are not the same, hense the reason why they can't using the same exact ram or even PCB boards.

This new card is just insane...but for that price, I think a pair of 7800GT's might do a better job price/performance wise...unless the e-**** is what you strive for =P
