The best solution would be a RAID0+1 setup, this way you'll get the benefit of the speed in RAID0, but also the "backup" capabilities in RAID1. Only problem is that you need 3 disks for that.
Personally I run 2 Raptors in RAID0, and the performance is awesome :)
Just take a weekly backup, and you wont stand there helpless in case one of them crashes.
