Question on RAID 0

Do you think it's faster to have (2)Raptor's in RAID 0 or (2)16MB cache HD's in RAID 0?

The 74 gig raptors will be faster by a hair. The 36 gig raptors will not.

But most people would opt for the extra storage the 16mb cache drives offer. The speed increase is really not as noticable.

I have 2 74gig raptors in non RAID 0 and they are still fast, I don't RAID 0 them becausei'm scared they might be so fast I wont be able to get a cup of water when BF2 is loading.

Ha, how about this:
1. Get home
2. Load BF2 and Load a server up
3. Put water in pot
4. After water boils, insert ramen
5. 3 minutes later take ramen off pot
6. Eat ramen
7. Load complete..oh #*@@, map change

Before 1.4 i could BBQ a steak on load :-), least 1.4 is better

BTW whatever you do, make sure you got a backup HD other then your RAID 0 cause somwhere down the road one of the HD will fail wiping out your data.

So pretty much the Raptor74GB is almost the same as a 16MB cache HD, but the 16MB cache HD holds more. Performance wise, you're saying the Raptors up top by a fraction?

Pretty much. It would be helpful if you are trying to get in a new loading map quick to apply for commander.

For what it's worth, everyone I have heard of who owns a 74 gig raptor are die hard fans.

Price wise, you can get atleast 120GB 16MB cache alot cheaper than a 74GB Raptor. So what's the best RAID setup for gaming, OS loading, storage?

For speed RAID 0, for safety RAID 1. There are others.. but they ar ethe most common here. RAID 1 though, halfs your HD space, i think....

Raid 0 - you see both disks as one , if one fails you lose all data , but you get max performance
Raid 1 - you lose Half you disk space , and is slower than a single disk , however if a disk fails you lose nothing
Raid 5 - (minimum 3 disks ) you get some performance and you can lose one disk without data loss.

If you have money to blow go for th Raptors. However the DiamondMax 10 HDDs are awesome and aren't very expensive. I would reccommend those unless you are filthy rich.
