Is it worth the extra 50 bucks?

Don't go with the OCZ Performance series. Pricey RAM with little overclocking.

The OCZ EL Platinum will get you min 230MHz overclocks.

What you REALLY want is the OCZ EL Platinum Revsion 2s.

Those are 2 x 512MB sticks that will get 270MHz overclocks.

All those memory sticks are very well priced. The OCZ Performance series would be $266 USD, which is $133 USD for 1GB of it, which is very good, comparitively. If thats getting to be too expensive for you; just go with the Corsair ValueSelect. There are ways to overclock your processor without overclocking your memory if you really have to. It won't result in performance loss from you processor, but people generally like to have their memory overclocked, if they can.

So i will need to get some quality RAM in the mean time before i want to upgrade to 2gb...

Which would you choose if you had a budget but could upgrade in the near future?

After revising the review on cluboverclocker.com i am shocked at the results from this RAM... This stuff is QUALITY! i know you wouldnt tell me to get crap RAM... but im sure that i will get this RAM now...

Yea. Thats why 1/2 the people that build systems these days go with the OCZ EL Platinum Revision 2s.

K i got one more question...

Will the DFI Lanparty ultra-d support the 4x512? also would i lose performance and would it be harder to OC cause of this?

Im thinking in the future once i upgrade to 2 gb...

Could i get high settings if i OC with the 1 gb?

You'll pretty much definately overclock higher with 2 x 512MB. But the increase in performance by getting 2GB will me more than the increase in performance of 1GB overclocked really high.

If you run 4 x 512MB you'll most likely have to run with 2T timings for your memory. It isn't that bad, but it does degrade performance by a tiny bit.

High settings with 1GB? Not with a 6800GT. You need 2 GB to max it out.

How does your corsair run? you think the OCZ will run better?

This stuff is the shiznit..

But if i only get 1gb of this ram will it perform well on high for BF2? if i get the 7800GT?

1 GB with a 7800GT...hard to say. I've never come across such a scenario. Usually people with 7800GTs can also afford 2GB memory, lol. IMO, you should get high settings with medium textures (since textures use the most memory).

As for the memory; Corsair ValueSelect is excellent memory...as long as you aern't overclocking. ValueSelect doesn't overclock worth crap. I have to run with a memory divider to overclock my CPU.

The OCZ memory, on the other hand, is an excellent overclocker, as well as excellent memory overall.

so with excellent memory i am going to OC.... so with the 1gb i dont know whether or not what kinda settings i could run on... once i get the 2gb of ram...then ill be laughing... but for now i guess ill have to OC my CPU, GPU (if i can get a good copy), and RAM...

I think itll be quite easy to do this...

Don't get 3GB. Windows supports 2GB, and you have to do some tweaks to make it support more.

Go with the 2 x 512MB OCZ EL Platinum Rev. 2? If so, then upgrade when you have the money. Yes, get the same type of memory when you upgrade.

In the very beginning, the 1GB will probably be the bottleneck. After you upgrade to 2GB, there will be nothing bottlenecking your BF2 performance.
