The way I see it searching for knowledge is never a bad thing. You also have to remember the old saying "If it aint broke dont fix it".In my orignal post I was trying to give as much info as possible thats why I mentioned a pre-built or Bundle as I didnt know what you had.

Again I think you will be able to over clock if you want to. I normally run my 6800 at 105% orignal clock speed, with highest settings no problems (FYI I also have 3 gig ram, a pentium 4 3.2 gig 2meg L2 running at 105%, and a single 120 gig SATA drive). Since the 6800 GT is supposed to be a better card you should almost be at photo quality performance and have a great frame rate if you have a decent connection (ie. usually a ping at 90 or below)...Red

Lol, running a videocard 5% above (=105%) stockspeeds won't give any noticable performance increase. I'm currently running my 6600GT at 600/1220 (which is 20% increase, if I go further, the core gets unstable).

Intels have thermal throttling, it's almost impossible to kill an Intel due to overheating. At tomshardware.com they did a test. Running a game with an Intel and AMD, and just in the middle of a firefight, take off the heatsink. The AMD reached 220*C and died within seconds, the Intel shut itself off to 'protect' itself.

Also, it's not "don't fix it if it isn't broke", it's "if it isn't broke, fix it till it is"

If you have an ASUS mobo then it probably supports jumperfree oc'ing. its in the bios. Otherwise ur prolly gonna have to mess around with jumpers. As for the vid card watch the temperatures and voltages. Dont be suprised if it crashes the first few times. just reboot and go to bios and reset everything to default.

Wow, so many idiots in this thread. I agree with Lil_Jimmy_Norton; The days of overclocking are as strong as ever, if not stronger. A 2.0Ghz Athlon 64 is "good" but a 2.8GHz Athlon 64 is "FVCKING GOOD." Those that are saying don't overclock probably don't know how to overclock and are either too afraid to, or too stupid to learn. It took me all of 1 week to learn overclocking...and now I have my 3200+ at 2.7GHz (very rare these days). This processor equals a 4.15 GHz Pentium 4. How many non-overclockers can beat that, eh? And thats from a processor that was $200 at the time (Its $150 now).

There are people who will tamper with the o/c thing and there are people who will tamper n fry hardware in there efforts for a few mhz here and a few fps there , if your not sure then dont tamper and save your hardware !!!! I agree that pc speeds today are more than enough for all our needs , just about.

ROFL. Its practically impossible to "fry" anything these days anywayz. Thermal Throttling will kick in far sooner than you can do any permanent damage to your CPU.

Even with a basic knowledge of overclocking, its EASY.

You people that are talking about Overclocking as "tampering" or some kind of dark magic, yea right. True, its changing how your hardware works, but the hardware is designed in a way to promote overclocking. Not only that, but most hardware manufacturing companies also promote overclocking. If you built your own PC, chances are theres options on your motherboard that allow you to overclock.

Those people who don't overclock because its too dangerous or they're afraid to wreck their hardware, they're pu$$ies.

Overclocking is fun. I paid enough on my hardware, I want it to reach it's FULL potential.

Things that limit you the most for overclocking are the type of RAM you use and the Motherboard.

Exactly. I have a $200 processor in a $1100 system that outperforms ANY processor (in games) that Intel can put out. If you didn't overclock, and wanted to match my processor's performance; pfft, fat chance (And I'm talking about Intel, for AMD, only a FX-57 can outperform my processor).

Nothing really limits your overclock other than your CPU. Sure, you can get a bit more of an overclock if you have a motherboard, but it doesn't limit you. As for the RAM, all you have to do is set a Memory Divider and you're set to overclock the CPU.

I used to have my card OC to 400/1100 from stock 350/1000
I dont have it overclocked anymore because im using the newest drivers 81.87
I used rivatuner befor to unlock everything in the card and just bumped it up to ultra speeds easy. I can take it to 410/415 but settle with 400 cuz its ultra speeds.
