Uhhh....no....it really isn't.
Any of the AMD Athlon 64 4000+ and above with a MSI motherboard, and a couple of nvidia 6800 ultras in SLi would be easier to buy than that new 7800 card.
Re: whats the best video card & cpu out for gaming
You don't need or want a dual core processor for gaming. It won't benefit you at this point. Get one of the FX chips from AMD and run 2 cards SLI like he said. 2 GT's or Ultras will surpass the GTX but may cost you a little more.
Re: whats the best video card & cpu out for gaming
for GAMING.
Athlon FX-57 w/ one or two 7800GTX-KOs*
for fastest normal computing its
AMD X2 4800+ w/ whatever card**
------------
* = the 7800GTX-KO is a factory overclocked 7800GTX card
** = the x2 4800+ has shown to handle more processes at one time, and got highe benchmarks than the fx-57, BUT the fx-57 is the biggest and baddest cpu for gaming.

only good answer here .
But the FX-57 is way to much money for what you get, only buy this CPU if you have to much moneyf.
Also, the X1800XT of ATI with the new drivers (previous drivers didn't control memory effective) is actualy a bit faster then the 7800GTX .
But it's hard to get an 1800XT , and as we know ATI , it will take some time when they come widly available

i think it will cost way more than 2000. CPU and graphic card like that..you gonna want and need almost top of every other hardware to fit and match their performance. if you wanna get the most out of it,.
just my 2cent
Re: whats the best video card & cpu out for gaming
well right now the single cores are kickin a** and if you go with socket 939, you can pop a dual core in there later when their capabilities (for gaming) are made more mainstream and used.
