  • I am so confused about processors!?

I was going to get the athlon 64 3200 but its only 2.0ghz and cost $200
but a pentium 4 2.4ghz is $150, why would AMD charge so much more?

they have different eqivilents, 3200 = p4 3.2 or so

AMD has lower speeds, but uses more efficient technology. Like Char-ley said, a 3200+ is roughly equivalent to a P4 3.2GHz.

                An Athlon 64 3200+ is more like a 3.4ghz P4 in gaming

The AMD numbers (3200, 3500, etc.) are roughly equivalent to the same speed in MHz for P4, i.e. a 3500 is about 3.5GHz for a P4. That's just comparison performance-wise.

Re: I am so confused about processors!?

the p4 can only have 32 bits processed at a time, the AMD 64 can have 64 bits process at a time which simply makes it better for gaming cause after all games do demand alot of processing. so go with the AMD its much better , btw i have the same on just make sure u dont get the clawhammer core cause u cant oc it that much

Re: I am so confused about processors!?

AMD cpu's just can do more calculation per clock cycle, this is why they have the same performance or better performance then the intels.

if you buy an AMD look for a san diego core, they have better memory handling

why doesnt AMD make there clock speeds the same it would be so cool, and people wouldnt look at intel and think that higher means better!

they just have a different architecture, wich means they can't handle clockspeeds like intel.
But actualy the AMD are more effective.

Let me put it this way for making you understand in a certain way.

intel is a 1.8L engine , who can run 10.000 rpm and on 10.000rpm it has 300Hp .

AMD is a 4.0L engine, who can only run 6.000 rpm, but on 6.000rpm it has 350Hp .

rpm is the clock speed, Hp is the power

                              rombaft speaks the truth.
