Heatpipe Heatsinks, does it work with tower computer?

I think after some study I know how the heat pipe works. well here is a picture showing how it work

If I put the heatpipe cooler on my CPU in a tower computer, the heatpipes will be facing horizontally to the ground. So that means the vapor in the heatsink will not go up and cool down or anything. It will just stay there and do nothing. I can understand that heatpipe will work in a desktop computer because the the heatpipes are vertical and it will rise up.

I dont think heatpipes heatsink has any pump. it works on the concept that heated liquid are lighter and goes up and colder liquid are heavy and they go down. about the water cooling, yep the pump puts the pressure in and out and the water flows, but in heatpipes, gravity is the pump.

on this heatpiped heatsink(one of many heatsinks) below, there is no pump, just a fan that cools the big radiator on the top. what happens if we put this on the tower computer? it has to sit horizontal right?? means the liquid is gonna flow nowhere??

Well this problem came in my head when i was looking for a Socket 775 (also known as socket T) heatsink. Anyone has experience with heatsink with heatpipes that they are using on a tower computer.

I do think for this principle to work this thing has to be mounted vertically, as shown in the picture.

I have no idea what your talking about? lol.

But have you tried the ZALMAN 7700CU?

      Its a good cooler.

i have the 7700 and its idle right now at 42c

i have the stock and its idle at 30'C :)

It will work horizontally. I have a heatsink with heatpipes and I run a AMD 64 3000+, overclocked to 2.2 GHz (stock is 1.8Ghz) running at 32°C idle and 46°C load. With the stock heat sink and fan at that overclock, it would run at 40°C idle and 52°C load.

On my old machine, I put a Thermaltake Silent Tower on my 3.2 LGA775 CPU (it looks almost identical to that one), and my idle was 28C, so I don't think being horizontal affects it at all. Make sure you get one that has copper heatpipes, not aluminum. Copper > aluminum

Yea, the conductivity of copper outweighs the heat capacity of aluminium.

Well, isn't aluminum supposed to dissapate heat better, but copper can conduct it better? But anyways, on a CPU cooler, by far copper is better, you should have good airflow around your CPU. So for any CPU cooler Silver>COpper>Aluminum. Now all of ya are gonna ask, wth is up with silver. Well, it conducts electricity and heat better than any other metal, so it's better. BUt the only silver coolers i've seen were Silver TDX CPU water blocks, they cost around 125 bucks. So anyways overall, copper ftw.

I use a monster cooler like that on my CPU (AMD 3200). It works great, but they say don't move the PC around a lot, since it is so top heavy. I use it on my tower and no problems

I got it because I thought my last heatsink was crap, it turns out that I didn't apply the thermal grease properly. I use artic silver my heat-pipe rig now, spread it just like their website said, and now I have absolutely no problem.

Just be careful on some of them - some weigh so much you might risk bending or breaking the mounting and motherboard. If you use a heavy one, take care while transporting the comp...

But they're really effective ^^;; I plan to use one once I get extra money.

Yeah, some like the XP-90C are extremely heavy. They are 690g stock, which is above the mobo recommended weight, not to mention adding a fan, which will make it like 800g.
