I get the same exact scores or better in benchmarks with a similiarly equal computer with an FX-55. And the differences you are talking about is only a couple of percent. It's not anything noticeable. Go dual core, you won't regret it.

I changed from a dual core because of a performance issue. In gaming a dual core does not load balance but simply uses one cpu (if you want) If you are using multiple appz they are the dogs balls. I saw an easy 250 increase in my 3dmark 05 bench with the fx chip.

Id go with AMD. I have had AMD since before quake was ever released. They seem better in the gaming world to me.

90nm couldnt go higher than 3.8ghz beacuse of excessive heat loss and they cancelled the 4.0ghz p4

I have an FX-57 (OC'ed to 3.08GHz) and I can run BF2 at 1600x1200@72Hz, all settings high, 4xAA, and I never go below 45-50 fps, while I can reach 100 fps sometimes. If someone has a dual core that can do that, plz reply! (Not trying to be as sarcastic as this sounds :hmm: ).

Dont forget, alot of the good frame rates and graphics come from you 7800GTX... If the CPU is above a 3000 or 3.0 Intel, for those of you out there.. lol... then the CPU doesnt make that much of a difference to the game play.

I run max everything and I average around 50fps. I'm not at 1600X1200 though. Like he said, that's all in your video card. Run SuperPi 1MB and tell me what your time is. I bet it's within a half of a second of my time.
