Ati X1800** Or Nvidia 7800gtx?

which would you buy and why? I'm leaning toward buying 7800gtx but getting worried because I don't want my card to be outdated in a year.
what do you guys think?

I believe the new x1800 ATI made is the best out there. But I love nVidia. :)

X1800XT = better then 7800GTX.

The only way I would vote against is if you have an Nforce4 motherboard. Then get the 7800GTX so you can slap another one in there later for SLI.

But I'm getting a Crossfire setup soon, so I voted X1800XT.

I would go with the 7800 GTX, because you can SLi it when you need better performance, and SLi is most likely going to beat Crossfire because it supports higher resolutions, but the performance matchup hasn't been determined yet. Wait for benchmarks between Crossfire and SLi, then decide.

Would you explain for me what Crossfire is, please? I know what SLi is but what does "SLi" exactly stand for? :)

They haven't had head to head benchmarks yet, so nobody knows which is better. They should be out soon...

Crossfire is ATi's counter to SLi, it allows multiple GPU's. You still need a crossfire motherboard, like SLi, but the advantage is you don't need to buy 2 identical cards. You buy one card, for example an X850XT PE, and you buy a Crossfire card, the Crossfire card acts as a second X850XT PE.

i'm not really for SLi i just want the best card money can buy right now that will keep up with games for two years or so

Crossfire= ATI version of SLI

nitemare how wrong you are. For crossfire to work you need a regular version of lets so the 850XT PE and a Crossfire Edition of an 850XT PE. im sure ATI will increase the price for these Crossfire editions of the card. the X1800 also only has 16 pipelines and the 7800GTX has 24. I would go with nVidia for two reasons. 1. two 7800GTX's will most likely be cheaper than one regular 850XT PE and one Crossfire Edition 850XT PE. 2. by the time that ur 7800GTX becomes outdated you hopefully wont be playing video games anymore and incase you are by slapping another 7800GTX will solve the problem.

Wow, none of you guys know what you are talking about. The x1800xt is a good card it's comparable to the 7800gtx but for the price and only maybe 10 fps at the max on some games not all is not worth 200 more dollars then say the 7800GT.

SlI and Xfire are 2 totaly different animals. SLI needs to of the same cards, It can run at extreme resoulutions with good fps and isnt limited by anythnig besides some games that do not play well with it, which are few. Xfire uses a dongle to attatch the 2 cards outside of the case. You can however run 2 different cards at teh same time, which supposably is an advantage but realy isn't. Here's why, You can only mix and match cards in the same class so no 850's with 800's. Say you had a x850xt and a x850pro the xt would run at the pro speeds and wouldnt even be useful to use the xt. :hmm:

umm, but the pro only runs with 12 pipes so the xt would run with 12 also. Don't beleive me go look on some forums other than totalbf2.
