well for a cost issue compare a 512mb 6800 ultra to the X1800XT 512, also, the 7800 was what... 600 hundred dollars when released, the ATI card is cheaper just give it 2-3 weeks after release for the price to drop
Compare performance between a 512 Mb 6800 Ultra and 256 Mb 6800 Ultra. RAM doesn't mean **** and won't mean **** for a while.
nock nock, you can't cross fire a X1800 series with a X800 series, hello is a totally different card, cross fire is only with the same chip set, meaning X850 with X850 and X1800 with X1800 so and so on.

Yes you can mix and match, but last i heard is that you can only mix a X850 Crossfire with either a X850XT or X850XTPE or anyone model X850 get it?? does not have to be same manufacture, same for the X800 Crossfire edition you can mix it with any X800 Card, so im pretty sure the X1800 Crossfire card is to be mix with X1800 models only guys.
Wait until ati comes out with crossfire. And remember, the 1800 is only 16 pipes. If ATi plays this one smart, they will have a card with more than16 pipelines in development to compete with anything Nvidia has to offer. I think the only thing Nvidia can do at this point is try to squeeze higher clocks out of their card. Non the less, ATi made a really efficient card and whenever it comes out with 32pipes, it willo be unstoppable.

This is what I heard was gonna happen, you buy one card, for example an X850XT PE and then you buy the Crossfire card, you don't buy another X850XT PE. Once you have the Crossfire card, it acts as a second one, so as long as you have the Crossfire card you can change that X850XT PE for an X1800 XT and since you have the Xfire card you would have 2 X1800s. But then again I dunno what I'm talking about..
ATI just proved pipelines aren't everything. Even with 16, it is up there with the 7800 GTX and I consider that respectable. Sure it required a high clock, but still, look at the benchmarks for gaming - its pretty close right? As for the cost, given supply vs demand, there's a reason why its expansive. newegg.com and some brick and morter (aka IRL) stores have these in stock and are selling like hotcakes
Mix-matching nVidia SLI cards - thats driver set 8x.xx and it does work, but there are some weird bugs not related to the mixing and matching thats stopping release.
I sense a nVidia refresh pretty soon, seeing that they'll probably move into the new .90nm process with their mid/lower-end 7's and possibly, if the 512mb verison of the X1800 comes and proves to be a monster, they ought to have something up their sleeve.
ATI's answer to Nvidia with the lack of pipelines is to clock the card higher. Even with .9nm core that comes at a price. It get's hot. The ATI card also has 1.4Ghz ram and that too comes at a steap cost. I bet the new card will be very expensive upon release and will stay that way for a while. Once ATI sorts out the problems with the new core and gets 24 and 32 pipelines to work they can reduce clock speeds and still be competitive.
This card is only slightly better than the 7800 gtx in *some* cases, is 4 months late, and costs more.
Give me a cost/ benefit analysis.
Heck, the card isn't even really out yet, it's a fcking paper release.
Look at the benchmarks bud, this card smokes the GTX. BF2 it has 10 or more FPS advantage, every other game it has the advantage in too. The only thing I have seen that it doesn't is synthetic benchmarks which are ******** anyways.
Oh yah wait the X1800XT is 512mb of video memory on it, and the 7800GTX is still 256, waiting on the 512, then we can compare the costs.

The deal with Crossfire is that there will be "Crossfire edition" controller cards. Based of the X800 series, and the X1800 series. The other card doesn't matter however, as the controller card will pass off the lighter stuff. Brilliant concept from ATI.

here's is proof, the crossfire edition X850 is actually a X850XTPE with the crossfire chip on it, now if you pair it with a X850XT, the Crossfire card will lover its settings to X850XT settings, in the X800 crossfire card, it is actually a X800XTPE with the crossfire chip on it, if you pair it with a X800XL it will lover its setting to X800XL speeds. read up....
