Graphics card dont take sockets, that's only CPU's. Graphics cards take AGP or PCI or PCI-E. GTX takes PCI-Express.

Yeah, I'm a little confused here too. Give us the model number of you motherboard, your motherboard uses either AGP or PCI-E as a video socket.

It uses AGP, I'm not a complete noob. :)

But there is no PCI-E out there for socket 478, which my CPU is using.

So I need a new motherboard and processor to even fit with the 7800 GTX.

Sorry about me being a total noob before, didn't realize anything. :P

Yep jackass that is true.

Drop the 7800GTX, spend the money on a new MOBO, CPU you have the RAM and a 6800GT. OR a X800GTO2, it can be unlocked to 16 pipes and with cooling it can reach X850XT PE speeds.
