    Re: The Ultimate gaming machine....

I cant see how anyone is taking this guy seriously either...

If you are going to use SCSI... WHY use 10k drives? You can get a 10k raptor to do the same job. Everything about this guy's posts leads me to believe he is only modestly knowledgeable about modern hardware. Everything else about his posts leads me to believe he is only posting to show off his checkbook. ... if he indeed is even purchasing said components.

The fact that he is building the system for gaming... when anyone that knows anything about current technologies from Intel and AMD have AMD in the lead for nearly every game. Not to mention the lesser price tag.

Maybe instead of bragging about your programing prowess on an Apple II... you should spend more time doing a little research before bragging to us how much money you are going to blow on a machine... that will obviously be wasted in your hands anyway. :)

I'd consider it the same as I got now, except some ocz platinum ram and 2 gtx's instead of gt's. Plus another drive in a raid 0.

Anyone who buys something like that is an idiot, no matter how much money you have.

Damn give the guy a break, he has the money, and he may not be as "informed" as the most of us are about our hardware that does not mean you can just call him an idiot, don't forget his system will crush yours (or 99,9%). Dude id go for an AMD FX57 the rest kicks ass.

Yea, AMD FX57 is better than those Intel, but if you want the dual cores, then go for the AMD 4800+ X2, they will also do a better job.

If you want to use "scuzzy" drives, then go for som 15k ones, not 10k. If your only going to go for 10k HD, then your better off using Raptors as they use SATA which is a better and quicker connection.

                    Good luck and happy gaming.

It doesn't matter to me what he buys. I just don't like people that try to sound "informed" when they are not. But I was kind of rude in how I presented it, and for that I appologize.

Look man, there are several things in your system list that can be made better for gaming purposes. www.dakotapc.com
Call me. :) Hell I'll even help you build the thing... Just ask for Orkan.

Nothing like buying 3 monitors and just getting the 7800GT instead of the GTX.

                          Re: The Ultimate gaming machine....

Great advise. AMD it is, though it's odd for me, since I remember in the very beginning AMD was the worst thing you could do because the math co-processor had a flaw in it...it had a problem with the floating-point math, which effected the 3D stuff...right around when the original Doom was out. As it's VERY obvious by all the flamemail (which I indeed ask for and don't mind :)) it's been awhile since I've been gaming...I tend to go in and out of it over the years. No I'm personnaly not putting this together, as I'll do it wrong and catch something on fire.
On the scuzzy (alright, I'll start printing SCSI...jes), I had no preference. The sole and ONLY reason was that I happen to have an unused one in the case right now, originally for faster access for Maya two years ago. Turns out not to effect it. But the Raptors it shall be.
One last note. Though it seems like I'm spending alot of money, in the long run I'm not. I'm spending it ALL AT ONCE...difference. Prudence dictates that one will upgrade eventially. The fact of the matter is, with the nine+ computers I have networked at the office, it seems like I'm upgrading one EVERY other day...and this is for non-graphics stuff; basic special-use programs written in Delphi and DBase. Instead of doing it part-n-partial, I've learned that you eventially have to just bench-mark when you'll do this stuff. You know how many times I've added Ram chipsets to computers and such right before our industry software upgrades, thereby having to rebuy this stuff again nine months later...TIMES NINE plus the SERVER!! (Point and case with the PCI express on the newer motherboards).
My last upgrade for my gaming system lasted two years...not bad. Well it's benchmark time for the gaming system.
                          Thx for the advise.

Lastly, I think I've got the info I need. Thx guys. For whatever it's worth, thanks for your patience on my ignorance. I'll file away the positive comments and post pics of this monstrosity to show your typing wasn't wasted, including benchmark scores...I REALLY am building this thing:). I'm just as curious as the next guy to see how far you can take it. The sad part about this is it will be a doorstop in about 18 months. --Sigh--
BTW, the next paragraph by no means applies to you guys....

Now for you flamers, nothing like starting a thread to wrile up a bunch of socially anemic morons and get them to spend their obviously valuable time writing flame mails to a guy they don't know, don't think much about, all towhich only to keep me busy while I was stuck in the house. Thanks...you are all now dismissed.
Guys....this is an entire forum surrounding a f***ing video game. You're hanging around it day-in and day-out and I'm the idiot?! whew! I was stuck in the house because of a hurricane.......and your story issss? Of course I shouldn't be that cynical.
That being said, I was REALLY hoping the flames my original post incited would be a tad wittier. You know...something with a little zip.
I mispelled NVidia....I keep using the slang "scuzzy"....I meant to say "optimize BIOS" instead of "overclock it" (although he was right...I know absolutely nothing about the BIOS). I'm "an idiot" because I'm not as familiar on current hardware as some of these guys (which can be corrected by wacking off to the centerfold of "PC World" in the bathroom for twenty minutes...ouch, watch out for that staple)....I'm braggiing about my check book because I'm spending a measely $3,000 on a hobby (no insult to the guys who just don't have it to spend...been there)....etc.....shouldn't be taken seriously (in your case, you're right about that).
Do you realize that by me posting this I'm as big of a moron as you? I'm already embarrassed about the amount of hours I've spent on the damn game. I almost don't want to be reminded....it's the geek gage....going up. Yeah, brag about that in a bar and see if you get laid. But hey, what can I do; it's fun.

So come on guys.....you can do better than that.....think funny.....witty.
                              Like the comment I made...
"If you notice your lights flickering, it's probably me rebooting"..........now thats funny...
"You ought to get a mini-frig and build a toilet and never leave"....THAT is funny.....

                              Well, time to go.

Oh and about the comment from the guy regarding me bragging about being on an Apple II................F*** you.
