    New computer

    Hi,

I am buying a new computer, but I don't know what motherboard would be good for my computer.

Specs will be something like this:

    Amd Athlon 64 3500+
    1024mb DDR 400Mhz
    120Gb 8mb maxtor
    Radeon X800 XL 256 Mb PCI-E
    Motherboard????

So, what motherboard would you recommend? Or other graphics card? The graphics card must not be expensive, something like X800 XL level. Or is X800 XL good enough?

X800XL is fine, I'm not to sure on motherboards. I have an MSI something and it's a pretty solid board.

I was thinking about buying 512mb more ram, and lower the processor to 3200+, change the X800XL to XFX Geforce 6800 GT 256 PCI-E. Is it faster than X800XL? Is there a big difference between XFX GeForce 6800 GT and Ultra? Because GT costs only 297€ and Ultra costs over 450€.

With that card, if you're set on it, then get a board with ATI's Xpress 200 chipset.

But if not, I would recommend getting a 6800GT with an Nforce4 board (such as the Asus AN8-SLi Deluxe).

One website for all of your hardware needs.... www.newegg.com... Go to their refubished/clearance section and you will drool at the prices they have there. I got my AIT AIW 9600 XT and have been very satisified. I had to send it in for repairs once and I think that was my fault (static damage or something) got my card about a year ago for $157. Their prices have come down since then as well. Happy shopping

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16814127172R >> Done it again. X800 for only $180. Not ATI brand but hey as long as its got the ATI chip its all good. Its like buying from Wal-Mart instead of Gap or whatever.

            Hmm.

The DFI LanParty series boards have never failed me, except the recent ones for s939 are a bit pricy. ASUS and Abit are good ones.

6800GT is just a slightly lower clocked 6800 ultra and people have been able to clock it past Ultra speeds. I think you'll be fine with a 6800 GT (esp for this game). X800XL is a great alternative if you're into ATI.

Allright...The system will be as the following:

              Amd Athlon 64 3200+
              XFX GeForce 6800 GT 256mb PCI-E
1,5 gig ram (should I buy 2gig or is 1,5 gig enough?)
Motherboard will be nForce 4 series board

Could I run BF2 with +60 fps on high settings?

Almost..but not quite. It won't be above 60fps all of the time.

This is very similar to my system. I am VERY happy with my performance though at 1280x1024 with all settings on high. But I DO sometimes drop into the 30s under heavy fire.

The best NF4 mobo is by DFI. It has the best features onboard and in bios. If dfi is too expensive for you, I'd look at Abit and also ASUS. But not the ASUS Delux board, the Premium one is the one you should look at it.

As far as ram, I'd get 2gbs.

Ok. I'll get an Abit nForce 4 mobo, but I don't know about the 2gb ram, do I have the budjet for it. Let's see.

Hmm well 150 euro is pretty tight. I'm sure you can get 2 gigs for 180 euro or so. I suggest buying 1gig stick now and another 1 gig stick (same model) when u save up some more. 1.5gb isn't the best solution for now and for the future. If you have 2 1gb sticks then you can run them @ 1t. If you have a buncha 512s and stuff, you can only run them @ 2t. So I suggest getting 1gb stick right now and another a little later.

Thats a great system you have chosen. I do suggest however to buy 2 gigs. Knowing how to overclock the processor will help quite a bit also. I have basicly the same system. On the other hand my cpu is overclocked 500mhz. this is a huge help in games. I get 60+fps almost constantly in BF2, on all high, resolution at 1280x960, and with 4xAA enabled. You will be happy with your purchase.:)
