    New Computer (game chops)

I am currently running BF2 on a new computer I just built and it still chops up a lot even with anti-aliasing at 2x and the resolution cut down to 1024 (everything else is on HIGH, including sound, and draw distance is 100%)

    My computer specs are:

    P4 3.52
    1GB DDR2
    ASUS p5nd2-sli deluxe motherboard
new BFG Tech Geoforce 7800 GTX (factory overclocked)
80gig samsung SATA HD 7200 RPMs

fresh install of windows XP, latest drivers

is this game just that much of a system hog?
do I really need dual 7800's? (SLI)

I was wondering, my friend had told me that it would not be needed, guess he doesn't know everything! lol
      I will purchase the RAM!
      Thank You!
is DDR2 533 (pc2 4200) 240-pin SDRAM unbuffered good? because that is what I have now

Don't listen to g-money you should be able to run everything flawlessly(not to mention the fact u have ddr2 instead of standard ddr ram). There might be another problem. But there should be no reason for your rig to have choppy gameplay.

DDR2 doesn't mean anything. Honestly it doesn't. It just allows for higher clock speeds, thats it.

Yes, I have DDR3-533 in my system as well. I have Kingston HyperX. Get the same thing you got last time though. Also double check your CAS timings and make sure they are correct in your BIOs. I did and found they were running at 4-4-4-10, so I downed it to the proper 3-3-3-10.

I find it odd, I can run Half-Life2 Full Blast with 6x anti-aliasing ande 16x antisotropic (spelling) filtering and it is as smooth as ever

There must be some other reason BF2 is chopping...hmmmm

Higher system demands. This game is more complex and has to render much bigger worlds then HL2.

I actualy cut the resolution up all the way, and the filtering up all the way, disabled EAX in the Audio, and it chops MUCH less....go figure.

Maybe another gig of ram will get rid of that last little bit of chop. :)

There is something screwy with this game. It's really picky about systems. 2GB of ram in not necessary, as I have lower specs and run all on high minus textures and lighting, with 4xAA, smooth as silk.

im sure with that gig of ram u can run on high and 2x AA

That is odd. I say take off AA for now and try again. ALSO: when you set the settings and it says "needs to optimze shaders", it doesnt. Instead, quit the game and clear the cache. (By default, it is located C:\Documents and Settings\"username"\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache). I've seen big performance gains in some cases. Also, update punkbuster as well - I've noticed this does help to some extent.

1gb vs 2gb issue : I think EA/Dice screwed up horribly in this area. For the buggy state this game is in, 2gb isnt a bad idea, but also a good investment for future. 1gb should be running fine, though high settings do push the amount of ram being used by quite a bit. But i'm running 1gb at my settings in my sig, so....

I will try to clear the cache, you can update punkbuster?...
yeah I am starting to feel as if the problem lies with the game and not my system...
as I said I was experiencing sever chopping, then I cut AA and Resolution UP and it chopped much less....I mean....if anything it should have made it worse LOL

what version of BF2 are you running? I patched it...

Kind of stupid for a game that requires 2 gigs of ram to run. Waste of money to buy ram where you could save it for the gas prices going up.

I would say that 2GB of RAM is needed only if you want to run textures/lighting on high :)
