i dont know much about pwer supplies but does anyone know if this is a good psu to go with a 7800gt?

Well the minimum requirement for a 7800GT is a PSU with 500W and 34A on the 12v rail. Your PSU has 500w but only 22A on the 12v rail. Now realisticly you don't need a new PSU, I know that 34A would be enough for an SLi system. You should run a 7800GT fine with that PSU.... but again it also depends on how good it is, since your psu is not of any good brand.

Aviod most PSU with an "X" in front.

Get a ANTEC or ENERMAX or TAGAN.

some people dont get it.. do the math!
a current high end system with a dual core cpu and sli and the complete other stuff barely uses up to 410W!!!!!!!! so everything higher than 450 is way enough for current high end systems

Some people don't know how computers work!

The watts don't matter, it's all about the Amps. Look at PC Power and Cooling, it has a 510W PSU that is better than any other PSU out there. Even the 600w+ ones. Quality over quantity.

You also want to make sure you look at continuous amps rather than peak. MAX/Peak numbers don't really mean squat.
