Some mobos let you set it in the bios, others control it automatically.

This is a pretty old topic being ressurrected.

A faster RPM Hard Drive gives a MUCH better improvement in load times than simply more memory.

You wouldn't get much of an increase in load times from memory though. The Maps and OS are stored on the Hard Drive and the faster that you get data from the HDD, the faster stuff will load. You get over a 25% increase in load times going from a 7200RPM to a 10,000RPM HDD. You get maybe a 5-10% increase from another gig of memory.

hard to say when i have 2 gig and 2 raptors :p but im pretty sure the 2 gig of ram is making the real difference in loadings times.

I get into bf2 in about... mmm... 10 to 20 seconds
Nice rigg , u gonna squeeze in another GTX !

25% increase only translate into a second or 2. It's not like it's that huge of a difference for real world use. I went from 1GB to 2GB and my loading times descreased a lot, but I also went from a 3500 to an X2 4400+ @2.8GHz too so I can't give an unbiased opinion. Just get both.

Are you sane? Unless you load in 8 seconds, a 25% increase can mean anywhere from 15 secs to a min decrease in load times.

Maybe you should learn how your PC works before you go off giving people the wrong advice.

I'm gonna clear a few things up in this thread.

First of all 2Gb will load the game alot faster than 1Gb. I'm talking about load times at least cut in half.

                    Second a 36Gb raptor "5.2ms seek", is slower than a 74Gb raptor "4.5ms seek".

Third a raptor will only increase load speeds by about 5 seconds over a normal 7200rpm drive.

Also, the raptor at 10,000rpm with a 8mb cache is egual to a 7200rpm drive with a 16mb cache, based on my personal experience. Plus, a raptor only has 74gb of space, which can get filled up really quick.
