      Well, i doubt it's the mobo, since i have a DFI NF4 Ultra-D Lanparty, which is among the best.

            1591 with the setup in my sig- , but my eVGA 7800 GS OC Superclock arrives tomorrow, should be fun to see what the score jumps to.

              9478, @ 2.5ghz CPU andf 460/1060 gpu. Wow I lost points when I Oced my processer more. yay. I also hear one of my gpu fans dying, I hope that doesnt become a huge problem.

                lol...cheesewz you got 6014 coz you have 4gigs but am sure if you would of pulled out 3gigs and keep 1gig in you would of probably hit 6800 with your specs.

                  Maybe so. Just planning for the future... Maybe I'll pull 2 sticks out and put your theory to the test. I'm not sure that pulling a 6800 versus a 6014 makes all that much difference in game playability. I can play BF2 at 1600 X 1200 with all settings at maximum and never drop below 50 fps on any sized map with any number of players.

                  Before this rig I'd never built one myself and had always been a value PC shopper (not buying bleeding edge). So this time I decided to buy the best components available on a given day with no regard to cost. I've been quite happy with the result and have learned good lessons from the process. I'm sure that next time I'll do a better job of selecting exactly the right components.

                    You have to keep your HTT below 1000. 255 x 4 might be too high. Try a 3x multiplier. Keep your RAM at the lowest possible divider (this rules the 'ram issue' out). BUT make sure your ram's timings are all manually set! Some ram chips will detect a 'slower' fsb and use different timings.

                    My example: if I set my ram divider to half speed (ddr200) then my RAM will try and use CAS2 (among other timings). Which wont boot. So manually set your CAS,RCAS (etc) timings, set your ram divider low and then try maxing your CPU. Start with LDT/HTT multi on 3x and just concentrate on your CPU.

                    I take it you're applying extra voltage to your CPU? I have the same motherboard, give me a pm/msn if yu need more help (and also to keep this thread on topic ).

                    Very True. Just to ellaborate on your point though (for cheese's info: using 2 sticks of ram will yield you faster memory bandwidth than 4 sticks. This will give you (potentially) a bigger -epenis... I mean 3dmark score. :)

                    If you mainly play games though you should definately re-consider using 2 sticks. 2 sticks will run at 1T timing; giving better game performance. Do you have a 64bit OS, or use photoshop (extensively?)... not many OS's actually recognise 4gb. If you just play games then you should definately get 2x1gb sticks of DDR500 and overclock your CPU at the same time. Otherwise just use 2 sticks of the DDR400 if you;re happy with that performance.

                    Actually using 2 sticks of RAM should give you a nice real world benefit. Anywhere from 0-20% increase is what most people report. AMD motherboards run slow with 4 sticks: it's not your bad choice of haardware -it's a flaw in the system design: no AMD motherboard can run at 1T (optimal memory bandwidth) with 4 sticks.

                      I actually do use Photoshop quite a bit, plus multiple other RAM intensive things (SQLServer, ColdFusion, Dreamweaver). My rig recognizes somewhere around 3gig, not the full 4. Really it was a buying mistake on my behalf. I was trying to buy the best and most for personal gratification. I've been a software engineer for about 15 years, but hardware has never been my forte. Was a little miffed when my system didn't recognize the full capacity, but I guess that I should have known it. My guess is that Vista will though. In the meantime I'll probably pull out two of the sticks. Thanks for the advice. I'm used to seeing people on these forums getting flamed for any perceived stupidity.

                      EDIT: BTW, I'm satisfied with the size of my e-penis;!

                        VISTA and Windows64 will recognise and address the full 4gb. I'm a graphic designer myself so recognise the need for more RAM -my laptop has 4gb and the extra RAM comes in very useful!

                        I think your setup would benefit from 2x1gb though. A Dreamweaver, SQLserver (etc) environment will be fine in 2gb. If you are interested in building the best performing rig (in respect to what you have now and your needs) then may I suggest:

                        1 x Raptor 74gb
                        A single raptor is faster than 2xRaptors in Raid. Raid usually only offers increases in server environments. Not sure about the specifics of your SQLserver application but I am guessing you're not running a server yourself -so dropping your OS to 1 single raptor would offer an improvement in games and OS load times. I can back that up but can't be bothered to find the link lol. The website http://www.storagereview.com covers it, among others.:)

                        1x raptor 36gb
                        Use a seperate raptor for the page-file and scratch-disk for photoshop. Using a 74gb raptor woould be a bit criminal for this though. 36gb is a more popular choice.

                        and keep your raid array for files.

                        if ur happy with e-penis then cool -you cant lose either way regarding your RAM: both 3gb @ 2T speeds and 2GB @ 1T speeds are good options... but that HD advice will speed up your load times m8 :)

                          Actually I am running a SQLServer myself. It is for development, so that I don't have to do development on my production server. Same for ColdFusion (and ActivePDF server). I prefer not to do development on my (or my customers) production boxes in the event that something goes wrong. When I'm gaming I just shutdown the services for those RAM hungry apps. My current config is my OS & apps drive is a RAID stripe, which in theory should perform faster than a single drive and the files on a RAID mirror. So the 1TB of disk really turns out to be 750 GB.

                            Please provide the source or some documentation for this claim, I have "heard" just the opposite, I heard that loading up all your sockets load balances your dual-channel memory as well as helping dissapate heat. I configured my machine with 4 sticks of DDR400 CL2 Kingston Hyper-X specifically because of this fact, right or wrong, my machine still screams w/o overclocking. Seriously please post a link or article that supports your assertion about the memory.

                              That's cool, and a 0+1 array is great. I was just thinking performance-wise a single raptor for page-file and OS would give you better load times. Coincedentally this article at INQ points to this review at THG which concludes the same thing. It's not the original url i was thinking of but they seem to think a single raptor is an improvement over 2xSATA RAID-0.

                                I already get great load times. I'm sure the raptor would be an improvement, but how much is likely negligible. It's kind of like SATA1 versus SATA2. Theoretical speed is almost always much better than what you end up realizing. I'm willing to try pulling out two sticks of RAM and see if that ups my performance in game and on 3DMark, since it is easy to do and undo. Replacing drives is another matter as it costs money and time. I'll save your observations for when I build my next "ultimate gaming rig". Thanks for the input.
