X-FI out at Quakecon! Unbeliveable sound!

I live in Dallas so I made a trip to Quakecon, just to check out the BYOC and the vendor area.Well just to my luck Creative were just revealing their new X-FI card. They had a 7.1 speaker setup and several desktops using headphones. There was a huge crowd around their booth. It took me 2 hours just to get a chance to try on the headphones.Everybody was taking turns. They had several games to try.I was BLOWN away by the sound quality.
I have a A2 platnuim card in my system with 7.1 and this new chip made it seam like crap from the 1980s.It just such a huge jump in sound that I cant explain. Then I loaded BF2 and i was just floored at the sound thew the headphones. Wait!!! Then I get to try the 7.1 computer they had setup. They had some sound demos we could try.It unbelievable!I tried some other games and was just awsome.People standing all around the 7.1/system were all just shaking thier heads about this new card. The advanced is so great one guy said " It like we been deaf all are life now we can hear."
I then loaded BF2 on the 7.1 system, as you know BF2 was programmed with X-FI technlogy in mind. The game sound like you was in the front lines.I can'texpalin it other than it was so real u going be blown away. The whole Quakecon event was jus a buzz with the new sound chip.In fact when the Creative booth fired up the 7.1 system all the other vendors, heard the sound and just left their booth to get closer to the 7.1 setup. Before I left Quakecon I like to look at all the BYOC computer area. All the guys were all taking about the X-FI sound card. The whole place was just buzzing about it. I think Creative stole the whole show.

So how long have you worked for creative?

But seriously, was it really good? I am looking to buy the Fatal1ty FPS version. Was the sound really much better with headphones? I have an Audigy 2 ZS, so I wonder just how much better this can be!

what's so different about it? is it just that the sound is alot clearer and crisper? also, when playing bf2, did you notice and different sounds, like ambient sounds?

Creative had a Quakecon promo deal up at the following link which appears to be down now.

            http://us.creative.com/local/1/promo...ty/welcome.asp

$199.00 preorder for the Fatality. I ordered mine before the link went down.

The fatality and pro have 64mb of onboard ram and enough processing power to launch a shuttle.

Glad to hear it sounded awesome. Now I just have to wait.

Damn, the only card that has CMSS 3D and EAX 5.0 is 280 dollars. Damn you Creative, that's as much as my video card! Looks like the next next gen gaming PC will be much more expensive. First cards for you physics, now a 280 dollar card just for something Creative should have added to their Audigy line.

[Cries at lack of money or will to spend it on such an overpriced product]

Whats the difference between the Platinum and the Fatal1ty FPS? I was planning on getting the platinum but I want the best card for the price. If the 80 dollar difference is really worth it I'll deffinitely go for it.

That's pretty damn cool that they named a sound card with the last years winner in doom3 at the quakecon. that would be cool to see a peice of hardware w/ your game nick.

The fatality and elite pro have 64mb of onboard ram, the lesser two card don't.

The xfi audio processor is 24 times more powerfull than an audigy 2, so the ram sounds like a good idea to me.

The Elite Pro and the Fatal1ty cards also have 64MB of RAM onboard. The sound card memory can store audio files that would otherwise take up space in system memory and eat up CPU time if compression is used. The memory will also let the cards support up to 128 simultaneous voices, or distinct sounds. EA's Battlefield 2 is one of the first games that will take advantage of the X-Fi's onboard memory and 128-voice support.
Should be available in the us this month.

edit: dug up some more info,

also eax 5.0 and cmdss (headphone 3d thingy) is only available on the fatality card... so that would be the card gamers like us should get =\... VERY pricey though (more expensive than what I payed for the 6800gt =\)
