    ATI 850 vs 800 ??

    850 = faster specs (about 20%??)
    800 = more ram (800 has 512 vs 256 for 850)
    both prices about the same
    for PCIe system
    which would be better to buy?
    rest of system is comparable power

    850 more speed. Since there isnt a game out there that requires a 512mb video card its pointless and not worth buying. And a waste of money.

          Go for the x800 XL 256 Pci Express, Sapphire makes a great version of it called the "Ultimate".

            There is quite alot of variation there and these are only the PCI-e cards (not counting AGP)....make sure you do your homework thoroughly.

                  No offense but for the same price the 850 is a lot better because of the higher clock speeds. The extra 256MB of ram on the X800L is superflous.

                  Edit : NVM didn't realize you got it already.

                    Why are people actually voting for the x800? 512 on the card is a marketing gimmick.

                        Either go X800XL 256mb and save a ton of money to buy something nice like a gig of ram. Or go for the X850XT, it's only 400 bucks on newegg.com. Platnium edition is just 20mhz higher clock speeds, so if you want that, then it will be much more expensive. DOn't go for the X800XL 512mb, it's way too expensive for the amount of performance boost over the X800XL, only 2-3 fps, and the X850XT owns it.

                        EDIT: When i say X800XL 512mb is not much better than the X800XL, i mean the regular X800XL (256mb), It's still a good card, just not really worth the amount you pay for it.

                            Ive got the x800xl perfectly fine in 256 I heard not much change with the extra memory. I would just get the x800xl, even though I misread and voted the 850.

                              ...right in an ATi forum. Nice. Just like a star trekkie going to a Star Wars convention and saying that George Lucas is a total a**wipe.
