    I have a msi x800xl

    My system specs are

    Shuttle sn25p
    AMD 3700+Sandeigo
1gig stick of ocz 2-3-2-5 "getting another stick in a day or 2"
    MSI x800xl

I run settings on HIGH with 4x antialsing and i put out 80 too 100fps but sometimes it dips into the 50's. When i get 2gig ill crank the settings higher

To be honest i would not go for the x800xl, they dont have some shaders which will be needed in later games. I would go for the 6800 and unlock the pipelines to make 6800GT or an 6600GT BFG OC.

      Good luck!
I have the ATI 800XL/256 on my main gaming rig.. 3000+/64 with 2GB ram
and it plays awesome at 'High' Settings across the board..

I have a Nvidia 6800GT/256oc on another machine and I have had
problems with stuttering..no matter what drivers I use for the damn thing.

Also, I totally disagree with your assesment of his cpu being weak..
thats plenty for this game... RAM and Video Card are the keys to this
      game..

      I have several 2500s, 2600s, 2700s, 3000s and I can hardly tell any differance
      between any of them..

I STRONGLY recommend the 800XL/256 for Battlefield 2.. its the first card
Ive had no problems with..finally.. and I have tried at least 6 differant
      video cards and motherboard/cpu/etc arrangements..

Here's a really good deal for an AGP X800XL: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102542
It's retail (not OEM, not that theres much difference) and it's cheaper than one you can get in a store, it retails for 300 in most stores. It comes with VIVO (power connector) for easy OCing. Make sure you get AGP and not PCI Express, because your mobo ain't got a PCI Express slot more then likely. The refurbed X800XTPE is a really good deal if you will accept refurbs. It's better than the X800XL, it has 100 mhz more core clock speed and 20 more mem clock speed. So that's a good deal.

I'm really not sure, if you trust refurbs then get teh X800XT. I got a refurbed coffe maker, but that's all, works great, no problems at all. So i trust refurbs, because it is simply a used card, sent back to the manufacturer to fix everything up and send it back to u to sell it back to somebody else, at least that's what happens on ebay at least. So yes, the manufacturer has checked everything so everything should work. If you don't trust refurbs, or you just like brand new cards, go for the link i gave you. I would go for the X800XT because 1: it's cheaper, 2: it's better than the X800XL, 3: because i do trust refurbs. But i'm not you, and both cards WILL run at ultra high (high with 6xAA and everything) unless you don't got enough mem, or your CPU is really bogging you down, which it shouldn't, because it's not that slow. So i would go with what you prefer, better, cheaper refurbed card, or brand new card.

              Thanks for your help. :)

I play all high and 6xAA on 1280x960, no lag, high fps, it's all good with my X800XL.

                      Holy...........

So with the X800 XT Platinum Ed. , I should be able to easily play at 1280x1024 with max AA, AF, with high framerates?

Or would having only 1 GB RAM hurt ?

2GB helps the smoothness, but that should be easily playable on those settings with the extra RAM.

                          is that with shadows on?

ive noticed that when i turn shadows on, its only like a 5 fps difference. Maybe because I have two gigs?

But i play with 1280 x 1024 everything on high, 4xAA, and right now shadows are off. But i get an average fps of usually 55fps. Seems very playable and smooth, and even with shadows on its very smooth.

Its kinda weird, because before I got another gig of ram I played with some settings on medium. My average fps was higher than what it is now (because some settings were on medium) but the game seems a lot smoother now that I have the extra gig even tho my average fps is less.

I don't really agree with the CPU NOT being a bottleneck from my own expiriences. I recently upgraded from a P4 2.53GHz to an AMD 64 3000+. I can now run the game on double the settings with no lag or stuttering at all. Even a 30 FPS improvment after RASING the settings! No other parts upgraded either.

Oh well, I'll just have to wait and see how my 2500+ does, then...

As for the RAM, I think I'll just wait for that upgrade. Right now the video card and PSU is my only real concern.... I hate having a 9800 PRO and being stuck with low framerates even on Medium settings at 1024x768...

Yes, i turned on all the stuff, even the stuff that was orginally on off like dynamic lighting (or something like that, don't know what it was called) It runs real good, so much better than with my old comp, i ran it on low with 800x600 res with no AA. And 1 gig won't hurt too much, i have a gig, and i'm content with it, you don't HAVE to upgrade ram, but it might help a bit.
