You can expect CPU + mobo + RAM to cost about £300 so you won't get far. You're going to have to increase your budget... £600-700 would do well.

And its a fairly decent PC aswell. Note, that's only CPU, RAM, Mobo, GPU and PSU, so the core innards (minus Hard Drive, I assume you already have one. But a 200GB will only set you back another £50).

With a budget like that, it would actually be worth it to buy a pre-built PC (lol, feels weird saying that :P). Ive tried to spec out a $500 USD rig, but it ended up being worth it to buy a pre-built. Anyways with that budget you probably wont be able to play any games on the computer.

The processor is the bottleneck anyway. You could probably pick up a 3000+ or something for about £50 off ebay. I think you'd be better off saving another £200 and getting a good gaming PC, personally. You could get a C2D, 8800GTS and 2GB RAM for that kind of money.

That is pretty generous for £400 imo. Its best to go with socket 775 as I think that staying with 939, but upgrading, is a death wish. The video card is one of the most powerful DX9 cards out there, its not quite the best however but up there competing with the 1950XTX, especially the 512mb version. 2GB RAM with those specs above is very good and will last you a long time as a) it overclocks CPU's very well and b) its fast. The Asus 965P motherboard is supposed to be a fairly good overclocker so you can get more juice out of that CPU, having that RAM helps loads aswell.

actually, the intel c2d 4300 would do jus fine. and if u really wanted the e6400, there's a newer version, the e6420 with 2mb extra cache at no extra cost.
