    Next upgrade 2015/16

    Hello everybody!

Well I was editing a video for my friend on his rig we got to discussing about a possible upgrade for my own rig which I built back in summer 2011, the specs are below.

Processor: Intel i7 Quad core @ 3.2ghz (stock)

Motherboard: Asus Rampage Formula III Socket 1366

GFX: GeForce GTX570 @ 1280MB (3GB) Asus OC (overclocked) CU edition

    RAM: 8GB Corsair XMS DDR3

    PSU: Corsair TX750

I was thinking of a full upgrade to a new processor, mobo, gfx, ram, psu and case to a 6~8 core i7 procs a GTX970, 16gb of ram OR i could wait till the Nvidia 1000 series make any real difference to the 900 series anyways what are your thoughs

Your CPU isn't very descriptive. What i7 exactly do you have?

Because from what I'm seeing there, the biggest upgrade you could make would be to the GPU if your CPU is an i7. The GPU is now three generations back.

What i am gunning for in terms of gpu is the 900 series specifically the 970 if the 1000 series don't make a huge difference/impact. the procs itself is from back in 2011 so im looking ot upgrade that to a new socket which will probs be the 1150, am currently reading up on that

Depends on what you want to do with your computer? Is it gaming or editing videos?

Nah i already got one editing videos, Im talking about video games. The way i see it i built my PC with everything from 2011, procs, mobo, gfx the whole nine yards. I will be upgrading possibly winter 2015 and probably quarter 1 of 2016 depending on the demand of games the coming year.

If i do upgrade in 2015 then Ill have to stick with the GTX9 series if 2016 it will be the GTX1000 series if there is a discernible or major difference and advantage between 1000 and 900.

with the motherboard im fairly set on ASUS or ASUS ROG as for the procs the i7 is pretty cheap here so might as well instead of an i5 the psu is somewhat of a concern if i should go 1000 or stay at 850w im guessing 850 is more than enough, the gpu question remains so i guess time will tell.

But i just wanted to hear your thoughts i guess mainly on gpu and cpu. Ram and mobo is not an issue nor is hdd.

EDIT: Oh and one more thing fellas, would it matter if i take a quad core over a six or 8 core? not video editing as my friend and i own a PC between us where we edit videos, this is purely gaming and personal use of the PC.

Second EDIT: Yes the PC's use is for gaming, social and web browsing, movies watching as well as light editing work on sony vegas for my YouTube videos.

Hey everybody, so i was looking again into local stores and what i came to was this spec below that i put together. I never go too extreme with the builds I create as I have always upgraded within 3 years. Therefore I build something that is simple yet effective, these specs are pretty good as the prices here are converted from USD to Bahraini dinars thus making them quite affordable.

                Processor: Intel Core i7-5820K Haswell-E 6-Core 3.3GHz LGA 2011-v3 140W

Motherboard: ASUS X99-A LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

                Graphics: EVGA 04G-2972-KR GeForce GTX 970 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 ACX 2.0 PCI Express 3.0

                RAM: Mushkin Enhanced Redline 16 GB (2 x 8GB) 10-12-12-28 DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) RidgeBack Model 997122R

These are the upgrades I intend on, the power supply I currently have may be sufficient if not I will but a new one, honestly they are the cheapest components in the shop, ill look into a nice corsair 850w, as for the case my trusty CM690 is doing a great job since 2011 and looks like new.

Finally been doing some research on 6 cores vs 4 cores and many answers keep popping up saying that it is not much difference in gaming. Anyways this upgrade i can say for certain will be happening on either Winter 2015 or Q1 2016.

Any thoughts from you lovely people would be appreciated next time Ill be reviving this thread will be when i plan my purchases.

If you can get a hold of it, check out MaximumPC magazine "Holiday 2014" that just came out. they have a big article on the new 4core vs 6core.
