Windows 8 Tablets

Anyone got one?

I've been considering getting rid of my "heavy" 3.3lb 13.3" laptop and going with a convertible tablet.

$350 (32gb) or $400 (64gb) and includes Office.

Mostly for travel and web/email/streaming. Ability to have full Windows + office is nice. I just don't think I could drop down to android, ipad, or chromeOS with their limited office functionality.

Surface 3 looks really awsome, but $1100 for the base unit + keyboard is too pricy. Plus I don't think I would need the digitizer.

First off, that site is the worst site I've ever seen. I tried all three browsers, and all three end up looking like there's no formatting going on at all there.


Secondly, I've never had a tablet of any kind. I have no idea if Acer is good for Windows tablets or not. I have no idea how they stack up against the Surface Pro 3's. From a quick glance, it looks like the SP3's have a bit longer battery life, a much higher resolution (2160x1440 vs 1366x768), and the SP3's have i3/i5/or i7 CPU's, etc. But they're also like $800. I'm guessing they're $1,100 for you, don't know.

For your purposes that sounds like it'll be just fine. I wouldn't expect to play any games (except maybe if you do the in-home streaming on Steam) beyond what they offer in the Windows 8 store, and maybe HD video will be okay? No clue. Tablet technology eludes me still.

Asus makes a neat transformer looking thing that a co-worker of mine bought:

They really like it and it looks like its built well.

Acer is an OK brand, but I have seen them not last very long or endure well.

Yes something seems to be broke with their formatting. It was working earlier.

Yeah the surface 3 is $800, but doesn't include the magnetic keyboard cover, which is another $150. I'm looking for something cheaper.

The Acer I was looking at is the direct competitor to that T100. Basically same specs, but is said to have a better screen in the reviews. Also it has front facing speakers, reversible display, and the neat magnetic dock.

I ended up getting the Asus Transformer Book T100 64gb. I just happened to chance upon one new for a good price.

note: windows 8.1 doesn't suck as much on a touch screen.

Horay! I was wondering how this went the other day.

Working on Windows 8, when I have a touchscreen its pretty awesome. I feel it to be clunky with a mouse.

Of course I dont work with it often.
