I'm thinking of buying a surround sound headset for BF3. I also need a better microphone for Spanish homework. Right now I have two desktop speakers, a subwoofer, and desk microphone. They are all old, and when I used some cheap surround sound earbuds I have, I am amazed by how much better the sound is, but they are uncomfortable.
So I guess it is a good time to buy a headset!
I've never bought a headset before so I don't know what brands and whatnot to look at. I don't want to spend too much one. The highest I would go would probably be $80. I'm really only going to be using it for gaming and voice recording, so the microphone is pretty important. And of course, comfort is nice too :).
From looking at Amazon and sorting by costumer review and popularity (my usual strategy), I have found two Creative Labs headsets that are pretty cheap and seem to be of decent quality, and then a Logitech one that is more expensive (but I believe it comes with a USB soundcard? What's that about?).

They both seem to have favorable reviews, but there are a lot of complaints of build quality and things breaking randomly. But when compared to other headsets, they are pretty cheap. I also like that they have a detachable mic.
Also note that I have an onboard sound card, so I'm not going to get the best audio quality anyway.
So what do you guys think? Anyone had experience with the Creative ones? Or any other suggestions?

The sound is fairly nice, and for a large head it is quite comfortable. The wire is very durable, and it is quite easy to set up being a USB headset. Despite it being a USB it has sound quality comparable or better than some audio jack headsets, despite what some will tell you. However, I hope you got a warranty, because the hinges where the actual headphones swivel to the band can break; mine did after about a year and a half, but I replaced it immediately hassle-free.
