It doesn't have a 27" monitor with it though... That's the only thing that's making Manzi's deal worthwhile, I suppose. If it had a smaller monitor (or none at all) I wouldn't think it to be a good deal, money wise, because it's rather easy to find much better deals without monitors.

And what exactly has to last about it? Unless you're a gamer, a programmer, or someone who uses professional software which is constantly being upgraded, there's really not a lot that has to 'last' in a computer.

art, videos, music, gaming, regular internet browsing, etc.

So he wants a gaming PC that can also double for regular stuff. I like how some of you seem don't seem to understand this. :wee:

It's not like that's hard to do. Any gaming PC is completely overkill for regular stuff.

:nod: a "gaming" PC is just a PC with high-end components, i.e. capable of playing video games with high settings.

Look at my PC specs. I can play most games on high settings and Crysis on medium/high. The PC Manzi posted is more than capable of outperforming my PC, so I fail see why he needs an even higher end PC, unless he's an absolute PC nut/enthusiast and HAS to have the best PC out there.

Alex is probably the biggest PC building enthusiast on these forums (as well as has the most knowledge in these matters). Look at his specs, he as a quad-core processor too.

Plus, Manzi, you're current PC specs say you have a Pentium 4. A high end C2Q will already be blisteringly fast compared to your current PC.

I mainly said that in response to AlecJ32's suggestion of cheap computers over 9 years, which probably wouldn't do well for gaming at all, or at least recent games. He seemed to have missed Manzi saying he wanted to game on this.

What Manzi/Mrklm's basically asking for is a gaming PC that he won't have to upgrade for about 4 years or so, as he seems disinclined to upgrade or build himself a computer. That's it. So while these specs may be epic now, he needs them to still be sufficient for future games and he wants to see if he can find a better deal than that other one he linked to.

Now the question of how much you can get for 1300$ that will still play high-end games well in several years arises.

I believe what Alec was saying is that if he wants this primarily as a gaming rig, which was not made clear at all, then it's best to make incremental upgrades every few years than to go all out and hope that one mega build will last for the entire haul.

Manzi didn't say he wanted to run the newest/highest end games out there. He said gaming, which for the most part could mean anything. The majority of games out there do not require much in the way of hardware, so someone who isn't out for bleeding edge games does not need bleeding edge hardware.

Now, if whoever's using the machine wants to play the latest games, they'd probably still be better of buying a less expensive machine and upgrading it later on, like say a $800 machine with a $400 upgrade down the road.
