Heres an idea to make you see the light, Col.Bunwhacker. Go to the tech centre of this website and find a thread a couple of years old asking for a new pc on about the budget you bought at (or less), and you will see that the specs and machines advised by people (prebuilt or self built), will be much higher than yours.

Two GTX295's with core i7 extreme with P55 classified mobo, 4 gigs of RAM, and 2 terrabytes of hard drive space.

All i know is, im done buying machines over and over. I dont want to have to keep spending a grand every 2-3 years for better fog and shadows... Like i said, i have 3 PC's already, I dont want a fourth...

It's not a grand every 2 years. A little upgrade will keep you going for 4 years. And you can sell your PC's so why do you want to keep your old PC's

No, we like playing the latest games. Although, we are all PC gamers and know the basics of how to upgrade (it's like lego, you click bits together).

my pc isn't exactly new (got the 4850 because my card melted mwhahahar, it was cheap anyway) and it runs Crysis fine and everything else I throw at it

even the new stalker game and its PC kicking sun shafts

Clear sky is new no longer (Call of Pripyat is out in germany & russia, out in the rest of the world next year), CoP has had reports of lowered graphics (not sure, nor do I care, I wont care untill I stop being such a Cpl. bunwacker and actually upgrade my PC)

Hey thats great for you.. Sucks for the rest of us though. Btw its not like im suggesting they stop making the latest games. Im just pissed they dont make games for my older PC ALSO. Not everyone wants to play the PC upgrade game...

The market for gamers with old PC's probably isn't as big as that with the latest PC's. Developers will always target the 95th percentile, and if you fall out of that, then sorry

Personally i think its the other way around.. All the people I personally know have older PC's similar to mine, except for one of them. I think that will always be true, look at all the people with older PC's still playing older games like NWN, and all the older shooters, etc. etc..

Thats actually a huge market of people who would buy games for there PC's if they were available. Personally i cant understand why no one is servicing all those customers, but whatever.. Im no gonna keep buying new PCs when the one i have works perfectly. I was happy with BF2 quality graphics. I dont need better if its gonna require a new PC..

Anyway im done, until equipment advancements top out or the industry gets its act together. If i ever buy another machine, I want it to be the last one I have to buy until it wears out. I have better things to spend a grand on every 2 years... Ive got all kinds of money to buy games though..

If that were true, then the marketing companies of developers would have found out and they would be selling games for them. If it means profit, they would be making products.

Build your own or at least do a tiny amount of research and then you might actually not get ripped off :p

Take the time to learn about what you're buying. You can buy or build a new pc that will last for 4 years (or more) and need nothing but a graphics card upgrade.

I mean seriously. WTF is wrong with you? Every single person who's replied to you has given you legitimate arguments about how it shouldn't cost you $1000 every two years to keep your PC able to run the latest games. You just don't hear any of it.

The thing is as gaming technology software/hardware advances it is not excluding older tech, hence why I can still play the games I started playing in 1999 on my PC now.


If you want to be on the same tech as everyone else you are playing against get a console and you will get a few years out of it before you should consider another.

1K every 2 years is not needed, as everyone else said, do the research, buy mid-range in the market not just from the top, compare benchmarks and try to conclude for yourself what is the best money to performance ratio for you. I payed around half a K for my pc, im only going to have to have to upgrade my GPU or proc in the next year or so for example.
