Games for Older Hardware

I know this, im sick of needing a new PC every 2 years because companies stop making software that my PC is able to run.

Every new game in the stores now, my PC cant meet min specs.. So here I am sitting with a perfectly good PC barely two years old, and its already out of date. Because no companies even make software for it now.. I highly doubt even one developer is making a game, any game... that my PC will be able to run.

I guess were all suppose to drop another 1000$ plus to buy new PC's, just so we can be in the same boat in another year and a half or so..? Not gonna happen here anyway. When the PC game industry gets its act together, ill consider buying a new rig. Until then, if any companies want to sell me games, they need to run on an AMD 3200+.

P.S. I dont care about graphics one bit, especially if it means me needing a new machine every year.

Every 2 years? Granted I build my own systems and I dont put the latest in them, but they tend to last me 4+.

My system is about to turn 2 and its still running the latest games just fine. I have upgraded the video card, but that was just because I wanted to, not had to.

You didn't buy or make a educated purchase on that pc at all if its lasting you 2 years get a clue next time before you spend on a grand on something.

Most people who build computers have them last for 4-5 years easily giving back to what people spent.

An AMD 3200+ ? lol they cost about £30. I had a 3500+ on a pc my parents bought me 5 years ago, and that couldnt run anything particulary well when I got it!

Yeah im just your average consumer that goes into the local PC store and buys the latest package deal. And what i got is your typical deal that most of these stores push as, "this is the lastest deal and you'll be good for atleast 2-3 years blah blah blah".. But its never ever true, you're lucky if its 2 years at the most!

My whole point here is, my PC and older PC's in general, are out of date solely for one reason. No one is making software that they can run anymore. Thats the problem! I go in any game store, and not one game on the shelf can my PC run.

This whole program of game companies no longer making software for older machines, so that you're forced to buy a new machine every 2 years, has driving me out of PC gaming. Im sick of it...

Consumers shouldnt need to build there own machines just to get half decent value. Its no wonder the PC game industry is not doing well. So i finally went out and bought an xbox 360. That is incredibly sad, because im a PC gamer for years. And i know how much better PC gaming is compared to consoles.. But i refuse to be ripped off anymore.

Think about it, people talk about the next BF game, and in the same breath "oh btw you'll need a new machine too". If every time they put out a new game people also need a new machine, pretty soon they wont have many customers. I sure aint buying a new machine every time they put out a new BF game.

Every person on my friends list has an older machine like mine, none of us will be buying any new games in the near future...And that not our fault, we all have money to spend. We just want to spend it on games, not new machines..

You don't really need to spend more than $400 every two years or so to get a decent gaming computer if you reuse old parts... of course it's more expensive than console gaming but prices are usually seriously exaggerated if you buy prebuilt or even worse, Alienware.

You gotta remember that you get so much more with a PC than with a console...

console = games

PC = games and everything else imaginable

No offence, but you got sold an old computer from the start. Software developers do make games backwards compatible, but the PC you bought was so backwards right from the start, it was just missed out.

They will have marketing and PR departments that collect data and study the average hardware of the 95th percentile of their market and create a game that will run on what they have.

Also, unless you pay through the nose, you will not get a good gaming PC pre-built. You'd be much better building your own and upgrading in increments rather than a PC at a time. [/QUOTE]

Take a look at my rig. under a $1000 two years ago. I added a new video card this year. my old card was 8800GT.

I use to have amd3200,ati 1650, and 1 gig of memory and that could run crysis on low.
I took that computer put a new MB amd 5200x2 4gig, power supply and my old 8800gt for $300.

You don't need a super computer to play games that's a myth

This is exactly what is going to kill PC gaming. Its driven me out. Im sick of being ripped-off by lying salesmen in PC shops. Im sick of being sold PC's and in less than 2 years no one is making software anymore for it.

And the only reason no one is making games for the PC I already own is to force me to buy a new PC. And then rinse repeat again in 2 years. I now have 3 perfectly good working PC's sitting here, and the only reason i need another one is because theres no new software for them.

I own a AMD 3200, ati 1650, and 3 gig of memory. You want to sell me software? Make it to run on that, because im not buying a new PC until this one wears out in about 5 years.

Btw all these new games are the exact same gameplay, all this cost and need for new machines is over graphics and nothing more. Ive always played every game on low for a reason. Because I dont give a rats *** about graphics. Infact most of the gamers i know do the same, even if their machine can run it on high they all play on settings as low as possible..

if you have to go to lying PC shop salesman for your gaming PC, you should just move to consoles. you are the target demographic for consoles.

or you can learn how to shop smart and/or put together a custom rig. it ain't that hard.

Yeah, I think you should start playing consoles. If you can't see a bad deal when you buy or be able to upgrade parts, then that's not good.

Everyone else manages to play without paying an arm and a leg.

Well when you're sitting there wondering why PC gaming died a few years from now, its this exact attitude right here.. Because if you think the PC gaming industry can survive just off guys like you, well you're sadly mistaken. There aint enough guys like you to keep it profitable.

It really doesn't. If you get a machine, they usually last a good 3-4 years. After 4 years, you won't be able to play on max graphics, that's a given, but you'll be able to play. The problem is, you got conned. You got sold a bad PC. You didn't do your research.

You can't halt technological process because of your bad decisions. I say, lets make BF3 as graphically demanding as possible, force me to get a 6870 :p

That was true back when i owned my 386, its not true anymore and hasnt been for years..

And my machine was fine and ran almost everything on high that was on the store shelf when i bought it, EVERYTHING! And now barely 2 years later it wont run anything. Infact it doesnt even meet min requirements on a single game in the store. Why? Give me one good reason why theres no software of any kind for older machines? Not that my machine is old..

Im not saying there shouldnt be progress, but this is just a pure rip off. Theres no reason to stop making software for older machines, except to force consumers to buy new machines.
