Re: for some reason i wasnt able to get this soundcard to work

I came across a similar problem today. I was listening to music fine in WinAmp and was surfing Youtube. I decided to watch a video on Youtube... but I had no sound.

Turns out, for some unknown reason, Vista had decided that I wanted to change my output to HDMI instead of my Xonar. Although WinAmp still worked as it was controlled by the ASIO plugin (bypasses Windows mixer).

Just make sure the audio output source is correct!

If you wanted a high end card, there are much better ones out there, but otherwise, an Xtreme_gamer would suffice.

well i got this one off amazon for about the same total price of the extremegamer at bestbuy after i added in the 1 day delivery

i dont know if its worth it to spend more than about $100 on a sound card

ok ok i got this soundcard, i put it in the available x16 slot, reinstalled my operating system just because and i plugged the black plug from my headphones into the black jack in the card and i do indeed get sound when i watch a video on youtube.... BUT (BUT) the sound is wierd like there are a bunch of indian spirit voices in the background like its goofy.... then any kind of sound testing in the control panel i hear absolutely nothing, i dont hear normal click noises and windows system sounds, then im assuming that you cant plug a pink striped mic plug into a blue mic jack.

then i dont get any sound when not in game mode

wait wait i DO get sound in the control panel but it really doesnt sound good idk how to explain it and then i DO hear some system sounds but they are all goofy sounding. im not really sure wtf is up here.

one interesting thing is that my phones are labeled 4/4.1 speakers not actually headphones

no this card DOES work. I set it to 2/2.1 speakers and put the crystal at 75% ish and it sounds very nice. one thing to keep in mind is the EQ settings can make a big impact on how everything sounds as well. my mic DOES work and i'll have to compare it a bit but im thinking there is a level of directional sound that wasnt there before with the usb sound card. right from the get go the bass sounded a bit better. with a bit of tweaking this could be very nice. or at least better enough than the usb card where i feel justified to have spent the money on it.

one thing though i am trying to reduce some of the higher clankier, tappier noises that tend to hurt your ears and increase some of the lower tones that were played on the usb card. there is a high degree of customization i think and if you have any tips i would appreciate it.

yeah to be more clear i would say decrease the amount of treble type noises in 'gaming mode'

Turn down the high end of the spectrum, 4k - 16k

eh idk it doesnt seem that simple

i was debating to actually just have it in entertainment mode all the time

You ARE indeed anal about sound quality and performance over all.

Glad to know that you figured it all out. Now you made me want to get a X-Fi as well.
