    Domain Forwarding

I am setting up my a website that will be used as a gaming clan-site.

So far I have correctly registered 2 domain names, gotten web space, and pointed one of the domains to the correct DNS.

Now the problem I am running into to is forwarding my other domain to the one I plan to use as the primary domain. Both domains are registered with GoDaddy. I have gone into the Domain Management for GoDaddy and set the forwarding to the primary. GoDaddy says that the forwarding is working, however when I go to the website, it doesn't forward. It says Page Load Error: Address Not Found.

Is there something else that I need to do to get it to forward to the correct domain?

Thank you in advance to any helpers.

Changes to DNS will take a while to spread across the Internet. So if you are actually creating new DNS records, you cant expect them to be instantaneous.

But that said, I don't know if domain forwarding will create a new record, or it is just some internal magic by your provider.

        From some random website:
The slow updating of the servers cache is called propagation, since your websites DNS information is now being propagated across all DNS servers on the web. When this is finally complete, everyone can now visit your new website. Being that the cache time is different for all servers, as mentioned above, it can take anywhere from 36 to 72 hours for DNS changes to be totally in effect.

Forgive me if you already know this, I am just unsure if we understand each other.

There isn't one central DNS server for the internet, but instead a lot of independent servers that synchronize. So if you ask a web provider to host a domain, say www.whitehouse.gov they will set it up in their own DNS server.

However your ISP may be separate from your Web provider, and thus have a separate DNS server. So until you web providers DNS have synchronized with you ISP DNS, you will be unable to get to the site by using your ISPs DNS.

I think I am confusing people here.

I changed the DNS server of my website from the default DNS that godaddy supplies, and changed it to that of my web host (ns.inmotionhosting.com & ns2.inmotionhosting.com). The website itself is loading fine. The problem is that I am having a problem forwarding my other domain name to that website. According to GoDaddy's site, it is forwarding fine, however it isn't actually forwarding at all. I am getting a Page Load error.

                Well, at least me

If I understand you correctly, you have two domains.
The primary domain is hosted by inmotionhosting, which also host your website
The secondary is hosted by Godaddy, and should be forwarded to the primary.

I myself use something called web-alias
at one.com. It works like forwarding but also unlike forwarding it keeps the orginal name, so you cant see that it is being forwarded.

I just did a test and can see that while I cannot ping my sites, they do get resolved to an IP-adress.

So I am thinking that if you ping them and get and IP adress back, then it isn't an DNS issue.

But if Ping cant resolve the adress then look at which DNS server you use for your internet access. If possible, try to see if using godaddys DNS makes a difference. If it works better with godaddy then it should just be a question af waiting a few days for the DNS change to propagate.

Alright, basically, wait for your own ISP's DNS to update; 4chan had this problem for days after recovering from a domain name hijack. Ask someone else from a different ISP to try your redirecting domain out until you prod Godaddy's support to investigate.

Good times during that DNS switch, good times.

Wouldn't it be easier to just do an HTML redirect?

Regardless, like others have said, you need to wait for your ISP's DNS server to sync with the other servers. Have somebody who might be on a different DNS server try and access the site and see if it forwards fine. If it does, it's your ISP's DNS server that's the problem, and needs to be updated.

That's certainly not what you said you were trying to do. You said Domain Forwarding, which is an extremely vague term and could mean anything. There are several ways of redirecting a web page, such as HTML redirects, Javascript Redirects, Server-Side redirecting scripts, and 3rd party services. The way you worded it implied that it was a service offered through go-daddy, not that you were simply adding an HTML-redirect to the index page.

If you don't want people to give you dumb responses, perhaps you should be less ambiguous with your question.

So me saying I am trying to forward a website to another site wasn't good enough for you to understand? I told my computer illiterate father about the situation and why I was frustrated and he understood the first time I told him.

There are many different ways to redirect from one website to another website, and you did not mention which method you were attempting to use, which meant we had to try and guess which you were trying to use. Naturally, when someone tries to help you in a situation they don't have clear details about, you're going to get stupid answers.

Because my son will understand if I tell him that "The car doesn't work", but a mechanic will expect something a bit more specific.

Also, I notice that you have provided no feedback on our suggestions. Did you try it?
