Which is a better GFX Card?

1GB NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT OC or 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS Graphics Card ?

Which is better? Whats the differences?

I'd say the 8800GTS 512mb because the 9800GT is just a renamed 8800GT and the 8800GTS 512mb was always better than the 8800GT.

The 9800 would do better at higher resolutions and AA given the extra memory.

At higher resolutions the 9800GT will pull ahead of the 8800GTS by quite a bit to be honest. 20% or so because of the extra RAM.

To be honest tho, unless you are diehard set on getting the 9800GT or 8800GTS, I would look at the 9800GTX. They run about the exact same price.

          I'd look at the 4830 or 4850 cheaper/more powerful!

for 129 you can get a gts 250 which really is a 9800 gtx+ that is about the same as or just a bit more than a 9800 GT SSC

I've never been a fan of SC or SSC models unless they are almost as cheap as stock models. 90% of times, you can get the same overclock out of the card yourself using Rivatuner:)

I did however own a EVGA 8800gt sc which was good :p

Yep only reason i got an SSC was because it was on special offer and was only a few quid more than the standard card was.

                      +1 to boris... i mean alex :p

Yes, but you get to keep the warranty, unlike if you do it yourself. Although I do admit that it's usually never worth it if it costs much more than the stock card.

(Alex almost has 10000 posts (ohno))

You think the company will notice if you do a software based overclock...?

It's not as if the new clock speeds are written to memory on the card or hard printed there for engineers to find, it's all Windows controlled so if you have to RMA, they won't know any better.

I always thought that they put a hardware trip that could tell if the card went over the factory clock, but there's a good possibility that they don't.

                              For the added cost?

                              I doubt it!
