The original 48xx's ran hot, but it just required you to turn the fan up manually the Catalyst Control Centre.

The 4870 is £12 more

sweetness! so whats the verdict then, 4850 (totals up to 187 in VAT) or put that extra 13 quid to a 4870? And waht do u guys think bout that PSU Biscuit chose?

Definately put in the extra £13. As we said numerous times, the 4850 wont give you enough of a performance increase to be worth so much money.

They do get pretty hot but as Alex said you can tame that using the control centre.

The power supply should be fine and run the system nice and steady. Many people vouch for these PSU's but IMO they dont give you the same peace of mind that a Corsair, Seasonic, Enermax etc would.

My mate has had a 700W OCZ PSU for a while and it's doing him good :)

I'm not a big fan of OCZ's PSUs, since they have a considerable bit more ripple than their subsidiary brand PC Power & Cooling and their competitors (Corsair, Seasonic, Silverstone, etc.)

Not to mention, in most systems a 700 watt power supply is overkill in most PCs, and all that extra wattage is going to do is decrease input efficiency, which isn't really something desirable.

Just remember to turn the fan speed up. I'm not sure whether they have changed the default speeds. Just keep an eye on the temps and if they look high, turn up.

Also, remember to do a full driver sweep. I had major driver issues going from an 8800gt to 4870 because i didn't do a full clean.

1: Uninstall all Nvidia driver software and download and install this program

2: Reboot into safe mode and run driver sweeper, choose to remove Nvidia graphics/video/display (as opposed to chipset)

3: Still in safe mode, open device manager and under "display adaptors", find your old card, right click and choose uninstall. Don't restart system. Just press shut down.

4: Put new card in and reboot

5: Install Catalyst drivers (newest, not what is in the box)
