    Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650

i have a question about this processor.

is it worth upgrading to fro ma q66 over clock wise?

does the vid matter for the over clocking?

im seeing this cpu can do 4.6 ghz on air..
    and there cheep now.

link with proof on the over clocking.
We’re sorry, but this page does not existing. Please visit our home page for more information.

what about water cooling with the clocks?

3.7ghz q66 overclocked to a 4.6ghz overclock on the q65 is a major upgrade as far as over clocking goes.

    or is it ?

    discuss please..

No chance you'll get a Q9650 to 4.6ghz without some serious, serious water.

Probably a suicide run. No chance he'll run that 24/7, the Vcore would be huge. Electromigration for sure!

well..if water cooling was the issue i see people with up to 5.6 ghz with this chip ...thats if you belive everything you believe...
so whats the air realistic clock for this chip

          air cooling 4.5ghz

          air cooling 4.6ghz

          air cooling 4.9ghz

          air cooling 5.0 ghz

oh my goodness it looks like air can do a lot look at all thease massive overclocks on air..

The voltage must be above the stated 1.3625v. Anything over 1.4v will cause electromigration and significantly reduce lifetime. That will most likely be a suicide run or he doesn't plan on keeping the chip that long

On water, 4ghz would be a good overclock. It will be very hard to get anything over that stable without some massive voltages. Remember, good cooling does not reduce electromigration. It happens because of excessive voltage, not excessive heat!

i see..alex theres ton of air overclocks on there with thease guys saying there using air and have massive overclocks..

in my own opinion of that chip wont do 4.5 on air its not worth buying over the q66...just because the cache is bigger ..wth why buy it..your game is not gunna run better on it if your quad you already have can do 3.7
thats just how i feel about it for now

It will do 4.5ghz on air... just with a dangerous voltage and huge temps. They are most likely doing suicide runs apart from the guy with a TEC who probably doesn't plan to keep the chip that long!!!

                  humm...
                  i dont know..
i guess im just real torn on this chip and well the current one i got....

i seen another q66 nearly the same vid as me at 4ghz on a cheap *** 30$ thermal take after market heat sink...

in fact i think my system still pains from heat because this thniq dosent cool it properly..
i clocked the wifes q66 same as mine with a diffrent board..

her new pc the one i just built, with the stock heat sink and all she had better temps..
                  is that not irritating?

Different board could mean more/less vdroop, thus different temps under load.

Secondly, past about 3.7ghz, the overclock is dependent on the motherboard as opposed to the chip.

To be honest, i'd stick with the Q6600.

Alex don't even bother with the kid. He is obviously not understanding. Let him overclock his chip that far, blow it up and probably his motherboard from the huge FSB voltage and then cry to intel for an RMA because he saw someone else do it on xtremesystems.

Most 45nm Core2quad chips dont make it to 4.2ghz, the guy just got lucky with an overclockable chip just because one chip got to 5ghz is in no way an indication that they all will

stick with the Q6600, or if you have money to burn make the step up to a core i 920 on a LGA1366 Board

You would be pretty lucky to get a chip capable of overclocks that high even with water. Stick with the Q6600 the advantages are gunna be minimal, especially in gaming.

                            to sum it up... no.

save your money for core i7.

i wudnt even save for i7 i would wait for the 'tock' revision to 32nm which should include the better bang for buck i5 CPU.
