I hope you're being sarcastic. The US is a lot, lot worse for throttling. Comcast got taken to court recently for doing it!

Maybe you have not read your contract properly but for example you are on a UP TO 10Mb connection does not mean you will get 10Mb, hence the UP TO word.

At home i am on a "up to" 8mb/s line, but our local exchange only supports up to 6mb/s

I live pretty close to the exchange and we usually got like 1.8 - 1.9 whearas then we were getting 0.2-0.5... im not super fussy about it all if we got anywhere between 1.2 and 2 during the day i would have been happy but the speeds we where getting where insane.

Anyway the techy came and fiddled today, think he replaced an old equalizer so il see how it fares

Well it must of been heavy downloaders that took them to court cause i have never had a throttling issue.

Yea but you have to suffer the horrible ui/login, I just change ISP each time my contract runs out as most can offer your deals for coming to them for the first time. Talk Talk and Eclipse are some of the best I have had yet (Eclipse is a bit pricey).

I have a 6mbits/s down line quoted, but it works out to about 7mbits/s most of the time

I've been with VM since they were NTL, and i've always had a good service but i suppose every area is different.

I have bellsouth/at&t and for some reason they recently gave us a free upgrade from a 2mb/256kb line to a 6mb/768kb line for free (I think it was a mistake but we don't plan on letting them know that). And they have decent customer service. Then again I have DSL which means you don't usually have to worry about throttling.
