Well, so you know that round port is not an S-video port. As such it may support audio, but I am fairly certain that your DVI-I ports do not. You should have received a dongle with your card. Something like this:

What is it if it's not S-video? Because my S-video cables fit into it. And yes, I do have one of those cables. They're the RGB ones.

Well it is and it isn't. Here is a diagram for your viewing pleasure. That port supports more than just s-video out.

im 99% certain they do support it as i have wiredit up myself. http://www.nvidia.com/object/product...9600gt_us.html look at specification and scroll down. "Audio input for HDMI - SPDIF"

I am fairly certain only AMD cards support audio out. Check out this run down on cables for more information on DVI and HDMI.

So what am I supposed to do with that? The only cables that came with my card is an S-video cable, a VGA -> DVI adapter, an S-video -> RGB adapter and an extra power cable

Don't use the S-Video, quality will suffer. I have an older PC that I upgraded the GPU and is now connected to the 50" LCD TV downstairs. Used this ($11)...



Doesn't play sound, so I connected the audio from the PC to external audio. It's awesome! I've been meaning to connect the gaming laptop down there to try and play some L4D on it.

FYI in case you didn't already know already, never purchase HDMI cables at the store, total rip-off. Got 6 10' cables for $2 apiece through Amazon.

I know not to use S-video. It's just that I ordered 15 foot HDMI cable + DVI -> HDMI adapter so I'm wondering if I'll also need to order a 15 foot audio cable, too. It's not like these things are expensive (like $30 including the audio cable at monoprice) but if I don't need the audio cable, then there's no point buying it:p

I want to hook my computer up to my HDTV without moving it from my desk.

The audio definately wont work off the bat. You will need to hook that connector up to the SPDIF connector on your motherboard (assuming it has one) A shame the card didnt come with one and i dont really know where to suggest getting one from but its a basic cable with a pin adaptor on it like you get for hooking up your front panels to the mobo

Sorry to interrupt this whole media center discussion, but here I go with experience setting up a small media center computer.

• DVI cables do not carry sound at all. If you have been told this, you have been lied to. It does not exist.
• Alternatives (for carrying audio) include SPDIF, 3.5 to RCA, and god-tier super prox XLR. To my knowledge, there is no special voodoo adapter cable that allows you to connect a 3.5mm and DVI to a single HDMI cable. Would be nice.
• Absolutely anything is better than S-Video. Anything. But if you lack an HDTV, then it's fine. Otherwise, if you don't have a DVI/HDMI port, use a VGA to Component cable/adapter. Remember that analog signals will always be analog (VGA, S-Video, Component) and digital will always be digital (DVI, HDMI, that-one-thing-I-don't-remember). The only workaround is to either buy a new video card or use that strangely priced analog-digital signal converter.
• I love you, Tomeis, for being someone other than me that uses Monoprice for assorted cable supplies. (Too bad shipping is a pain in the arse.)

DVI is basically the same thing as HDMI, but without the sound, the image quality is the same.

Some cards (only ATI I think) can send sound through the DVI port when the HDMI adapter is attached.

Alright, well thanks for the information guys. Gonna get the audio cable, too. I actually can't wait for them to come because I'll finally be able to simply just switch between displays when I decide to watch a movie instead of having unplug everything from my computer, move it next to the TV, and then plug everything back in. Now I can play my gaimes on the couch in 1080p :awes but once the gaming gets seriously serious, I can just switch back to my monitor at the desk

@TinFoil I know nothing exists to connect 3.5m + DVI to an HDMI. What I'll be doing is having a DVI/HDMI (the combo one) cable going from my computer's DVI port into the TV's HDMI port, and then the 3.5mm from the back speaker port into the TV. And I was actually going to be getting the cables at Christmas, but monoprice was all sold out! It's only now that they've restocked the ones I was looking at :)
