i used this on my x1950xt and it took my temps from +90C to 60-65C under load.
due to design constraints, i did have to use thermal pads between the vram and the copper base unit on two chips. i could've worked out a sekusi tape-copper slab-sekusi tape-copper base contact solution if i'd wanted, but i just never had problems with just the thermal pads.
it's nearly silent, to boot.
if you're feeling adventurous, a thermalright hr03 gt with a high quality (rpm's aren't everything) fan would do you right, imho, but you'd likely require some additional BGA ramsinks on components besides the vram.
edit: the one i linked replaced a zalman vf900-cu that still underperformed for me after several re-seats. i may have just gotten a bad one. who knows... also, if i'm not mistaken, the 900's still plug into the mobo instead of the gpu. easy fix if you're inclined to replace the plug.
