    8800GT Cooler Replacement

I have the XFX 8800GT Extreme with the factory OC, the stock cooler isn't enough. it idles at near 65 and I've seen it reach 100 load and I know it gets higher than that as the PC hardlocks and I have to wait a few minutes before I turn it on again or I will have no video.

Which after market cooler do you guys recommend?

I was looking at the Zalman VF-1000

I dont think I have space for a Thermaltake HR-03 or ZEROtherm Hurricane HC92, but that may be possible.

I got an Akasa Vortexx Neo. It's not the best out there, but it's cheap, works well and looks cool :)

Xigmatek Battleaxe (VD964) or Accelero S1 w/Turbo module or ghetto modd 120mm fan, but both of them are huge coolers, so make sure you have 2 empty slots below your graphics card.

nice one.. Its a shame you cant turn off the little blue LEDs, i might try and snip the cables to them if he doesn't like it

Alex, is the the 8800GT rev2 with the bigger fan? How loud was it under load?

And I don't think Akasa sells stuff in the US.

I hate components with useless LEDs you can't turn off. What a waste of power. But how much power does a LED use anyway?

LED uses next to no power.

It was the rev2 version, i can't remember temps, that was last summer :p

Considering a little switch for them would be about.. £0.10 i dont see why more of them dont include it i mean im not talking a house hold lightswitchor anything there are plenty of small ones available and im sure you could design around it slightly so that it doesn't ruin the aesthetics.

As of right now this is the only way to prevent my card from dying, it hits about 100 during HL2, I'd like to play Crysis but....

Reseat it with new thermal paste. Or RMA to EVGA, you have it registered for the lifetime warranty right?
