Anyway, it's not as if converting plgus between countries is hard. I have loads of converters because a lot of my stuff was from Canada, TV, radio etc...

How do grounding pins work in the US if there are only two plugs that actually go into the wall socket?

It's simple. Old-Fashioned two prong outlets don't have a ground. However, two prong plugs are really only found in older houses, and almost all houses, even the older ones will have some three prong outlets, if not three prong outlets exclusively.

I've also got an adapter around here that turns a 3 prong plug into a 2 prong plug that can plug into a 2 prong socket, but it just sounds like a really dangerous idea so I don't use that adapter.

Just cut (or bend) the ground and there you have it. I remember seeing a extension which allows you to hide the ground, thus make it fit to both types. Nevertheless, this is less of an issue nowadays, as most plugs around here have ground socket.

Sorry but dude there are 13 different power supply plugs

and the follow this pattern

2 different North American plugs
7 different euro plugs
2 different Asian plugs
1 African plug

So what if Europe has more different styles of plug if you look at the charts very few countries IN THE WORLD share the same voltage and frequency of power supply so frankly unless you have the brains and the know how to convert every country to the same voltage and same frequency of supply and the same style adapter then you cannot lay the blame on a specific continent

Yea... so who cares?

Well, when you need to pack up and move to another country, you'll need to pack up additional wall plug converter and make sure all your AC adapters work with different frequency and voltage.

It's just so inconvenient. One of my Indian friend from Delhi can't use his cellphone due to this very stupid reason.

There is only one standard in the US and basically most of the Pacific Rim (except those OZ-dominated places), while there are at least 4 different standards existed in Europe: British, Danish, German/France and Italian.

Because we tend to get it right? After all, the pan-European mobile phone network is much more flexible because we thought to actually invent the GSM standard right at the start of the mobile revolution for full inter-operability, unlike you Yanks. :p

there is no point being a fan boi in the computer component business because it changes so rapidly. One company might bring out a product which much better fits your needs but if your a fanboi you may miss out on a golden opportunity!
