Help - Spawny Maybe Wants a 22" Widescreen Monitor

Okay, so for awhile now I have been considering getting a 22" widescreen monitor. I currently have a Viewsonic 19" LCD (VX922) which has served me well for its life (though something got fried inside of it and my brother had to replace some parts inside and now it works again). I was hoping for a good deal on a monitor for Black Friday or Cyber Monday but nothing really came up. They of course had an Acer monitor on sale for $149.99 which is a great price, and it got decent reviews, I just didn't want to go there. There was also a Samsung on sale, the 2232BW+ I believe, which looked decent, but I couldn't bring myself to get it. I'm still not positive I need a new monitor but I've been wanting one for months now. I probably shouldn't be spending the money either but oh well. :p

Anyway, I've always heard, even read in here a few times, that Dell makes good monitors. I've never really looked into Dell products because I always thought they would be quite pricey. Then I looked at their 22" new model and saw it was only $239, which isn't too bad at all for a quality display. Here it is:

Thoughts? Comments? Other suggestions for a good monitor?

My only other concern is I only sit about 2-3 feet away from the screen at my current desk, more like 3-4 feet away at my desk at home, so would 22" be too big maybe? Anyway, any feedback would be appreciated. :)

Yeah seriously, 22", good response time, decent contrast ratio (Could be higher, hell Acer's was 2500:1), and full 1080p HD for only $239...I don't think you can beat that. I just wanted to ask around some more before I made any decisions.

It has a weird resolution because its "full" hd/widescreen...Alex98uk has that one i think or a similiar one from dell..

I have exactly the same model, but the 24" version. It's one of the best monitors i've used, i love the quality :) I sit roughly 2foot away from my 24" and i have no problems. In fact, i have a 24" and 22" in dual monitor mode and it's no hassle :p

I saw you mentioned samsung and I have to say that they make awesome quality monitors. my 17" was going on very strong after 5 years use from back when lcd really made its appearance! No black dots at all which leads me to personally select samsung lcd over any other brands now. I also heard sony bravia is produced from samsung..

dell monitors always looked ugly imo neways.

Try and find out who make the Panel which goes in the monitor rather than just the manufacturer who puts it together. TN panels are usually a lot less vibrant and accurate than others such as PVA. Things might have changed since last time i checked but im guessing not much...

                  I have the 22" Samsung 226BW and it's beautiful

I know whn they first came out there was alot of worry about the panels in it as they varied from the S (Samsung) and C (ChiMei) panels.. Everyone wanted the S but apparently they were only bringing out the C panel.. But from what I'm told they are all Samsung now...

My monitor is a TN panel, its a good quality one (3000:1 contrast) so i cant tell the difference between mine and my friends PVA monitor, the only thing i can say about TN making it inferior is the viewing angles, its fine if your sat right in front of it but if you have lots of friends sitting around at different angles the colour is a little off and a lot less bright

TN panels are however known for faster response time mine is coming close to two years old and has 2ms (GTG) which is still top of the line for new monitors

also go for the dell, it looks good

the only problem with big monitors means you have more chances to get dead/stuck pixels, and it sucks when it has enough that it bugs you but not enough to be returned/fixed by company. just ask me...

that sucks, ive had a 17" samsung when lcds first came out and it never had bad pixels until one unfortunate nite when a stray bb shot kissed the screeen =/.

nope, the only thing that happened to me was my cell phone... the whole bottom corner is bright orange now and blocks out lots of information. really sucks.

yeah i have ONE stuck pixel dead center of the screen, really bothers me some times, others is not visible if i have a white background, im pretty sure its a stuck pixel since it looks green instead of white or black, i heard its possible to fix it, how? who knows
