Eventually, when I have the spare money, I'll upgrade from my ol' 19" to a 20-22" widescreen. :p

      I upgraded from a 15" CRT to a 22" LCD :) Now that was a huuuge improvement!

You generally want a 5ms response time or less, 2ms being the lowest. You can prolly still get away from 8ms me thinks though.

As for the different ports to choose from, I find that it may stretch or blur the picture depending on certian ports. As well tvs are natually 16:9 aspect ratio vs a computers ratio of 16:10. I find RGB (which is VGA) works very well. In fact that is the computer port on you plug into on all the modern tvs.

I believe I did try DVI to HDMI though and I was not impressed. Same goes with DVI to DVI. Like I said, it all has to do with the aspect ratios and the quality of the screen itself.
This is the strangest thing. My dell 19" monitor says it has a response time of 8ms. I do not notice any delay whatsoever. My Aquos (which is lcd) says it has a 6ms response time, but it seems to delay considerably. Im very confused .
How would you compare vga-vga vs dvi-hdmi? Are you saying dvi-hdmi is worse/same/better?

By delay do you mean the monitor has latency to the mouse/keyboard or there is ghosting on the image?

If its delay as in latency then the circutry in the monitor is usually quite poo.

Manufacturers tend to differ on the definition of response time so some say its gtg (grey to grey) which is IMO the true definition but others take the halfway point or white to grey which would infact double the response time.

DVI - HDMI is essentially the same thing with different connectors.

VGA - VGA is better if you have a CRT monitor however when you send that signal to a TFT monitor it has to convert the signal to a digital one. This is because a CRT monitor scans the image line by line however a TFT monitor will show the whole image (or frame) as one.

There is no ghosting that I know of. The mouse/keyboard input lags by about half a second, making my movements in a game quite sluggish.

Im not sure what they mean by 6ms, so your saying it could actually be 12ms?

So your saying the vga could be the cause of the delay? If i used a hdmi-dvi cable, it wouldn't have to convert the signal, since its already digital? Im not sure because my ps3, which runs on an hdmi cable, seems to delay too. I thought it was the bluetooth controller, but apparantly it isnt.

Resolution is EVERYTHING... the bigger the monitor the higher res you need to look good. i have a 24 inch acer 1920 x 1200 looks amazing.. my fathers 50inch plasma that is the same res.. looks like crap compared to my monitor

thats why im in the market for the apple 30inch 2560 x 1600 res now thats pimp! thats also the highest res my sli'd 8800Gt's will handle.

First can i correct what i said earlier... GTG is colour to black to another colour and im not sure why i said that was what i thought should be unified CR. white to black to white should be how its measured. At the moment it isnt and its *usually* done with the before mentioned GTG. Sorry about that.

Possibly, as far as i know there isnt any standards governing how manufacturers measure their contrast ratios so they can use the rising time, falling time or the affor mentioned method. I guess it all depends on how you look at it too really
For your monitor you may have to [in your mind] seperate the speed of pixels changing colour (which is response time related) from the latency between input peripherals and the display caused by the electronic board behind the panel. Both could be the cause of the problem however its more common for LCDs to have delay in their pixel switch off than switch on (which is why ghosting is more common) which tends to point to the electronics running the panel.

Sounds like its just the way the monitor works and the electronics within it then although i wouldnt entirely rule out the possibility that the pixels just have a poor rising time.

Check out on google and see if other people with your monitor have had similar issues.

thats often qouted as the response time as thats the easiest transiton for an liquid crystal to do, my monitor has 2ms GTG but is about 8-10ms when going from black to white

                    hope that helps
