My old monitor just wasn't quite big enough :P

Okay so my parents kept asking me what I wanted for Christmas (Note: I am 19 years old but we find Christmas to be the time to spend money on upgrading stuff ) so I told them a few games I wanted for 360, Wii...etc but I couldn't really put my finger on what I truly wanted.

So when the fliers started coming out and I saw TV's as the big thing this year, I immediately jumped on that bandwagon and told them I wanted a 50" Plasma for the living room TV. *Evil Plan Takes Place*

So they immediately shot that down, they instead bought it for the family room. roflmao  but my "sanctuary" outside of my gaming room was the living room, so that just didn't cut it.

I hooked up my computer to my 32" Widescreen LCD in my living room and realized what I wanted...

Story going forward, the next day I sold my boss my brand new 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor for $175, and bought a 32" Widescreen LCD from Walmart, along with a wall stand

Seeing how I have gone my whole life without a TV in my room (Boo Hoo), this will also give me the opportunity to hook up cable to it which means I can actually watch Sunday Night and Monday Night Football without waking anybody up as I jump up and down and scream "GO GO GO GO!!" :yay:

Let me say this, people with 17-22" monitors.. upgrade.. today! I thought that PC graphics were limited on World at War as I played it on my XBOX360 and then PC..they seemed much different. It's the monitor size!!

When I played WaW on my 32" in my living room, it was like an entirely new game! It looked so much crisper and sexxxier

    On to pictures.

    The Old Setup

    The New Setup

Check back on Monday for the finished picture!

**But seriously, TV's are cheap .. like $450 for a 32" Widescreen. If you have the room for it, Upgrade! Best thing you'll ever do.

Yes, but what resolution is the TV? If it isn't 1080p you probably downgraded.

I got a 32" a couple of years ago now and used it as my primary monitor for a while, I got really motion sick playing my games and stuff. At the time I was playing BF2142 and when I went for a ride in the gunship it was like a roller coaster. I settled for a 22" (considering on of the 24" LED backlight LCD). I still have my computer hooked up to the 32", but I mostly use it to watch stuff like anime (bless Japanese HD channels, 720p anime is here!).

All I can say is WELCOME TO THE CLUB MAN!!!!

Well, I had a similair thing happen to me last year just after xmas when my rents saw a 46" sony bravia going pretty cheap. The way things work in my familys house is that everyone gets there own thing, I even have my own refigerator that I of course stock up with beer all the time but thats another story...

So they bought me this crazy LCD screen, full HD just to inspire me to do better and though I may not be there yet, I am much closer today in deciding what I want to do than I was last year and putting away some cash at the same time.

Neways, bak to the screen - you don't want plasma for gaming newho because its slower response time and not nearly as crisp as LCD. The only bonus plasma really had over lcd was size and thats shrinking rapidly.

Next thing you need to do is get like the logitech 5.1 z5300 surround sound system. its like 500watts peak and its really awesome for gaming!

I'm actually getting a new satelite HD PVR receiver from bell for xmas it seems. Pretty sweet, seeing as how the last receiver I had was already zapped in an electrical storm and just totally died a few months ago. Hmmm I'ma have to post a pic of my setup too now

bytheway, i dont see your current setup pic.

        ---edit----

        my latest setup:

i sit on a couch. lol.

Does your graphics card support full 1080p output? I know the HD48xx's do and that is what i am using. Otherwise, i think it'll be scaled down.

A massive screen would be rather cool, but I only got a 22" last christmas D:

We have a 50inch Panasonic Viera in the First lounge room with another media/gaming pc and it isn't bad, CoD4 looks GREAT on it! you get used to the size pretty quick though..

We have a 42" viera in the second lounge/gaming area with the PS3 and xbox360.. But for PC gaming I'm happy with my single 22" samsung ^.^

                  Though I wouldn't mind this

I'm totally happy with my 19' in. widescreen in my basement, I still think it looks pretty big.

As for TV, I do have our 42' in. LCD behind my desk(computer chair -> computer desk -> couch -> xbox -> 42' LCD), and a good surround sound setup. We also have a 50' in. plasma upstairs thats... two years old now. We got both the TVs free because of my Dads job, they have at least 20 Pioneer TVs just laying around.

When did you say decode movies? You said "support", which is does. It displays 1080p on our HDTV. Maybe not movies in 1080p, but that's not what you said in the first place :p We've actually never tried video above 480p

I tried hooking up my 26" aquos a while back. It looks great and everything, the only bad part is that the tv lags a bit, and i notice it when playing console games aswell. Is there any way to shrink/eliminate lag on the hdtv? 26" seems pretty big for a monitor, and if lag was nonexistant i would use it primarily.

It does look sweet though, and thats just vga. Im thinking of buy a dvi to hdmi cable to hook it up.

It maybe that your 26" tv has a slow response time, this is a lot more common with plasma screens as well vs LCD.

You generally want a 5ms response time or less, 2ms being the lowest. You can prolly still get away from 8ms me thinks though.

As for the different ports to choose from, I find that it may stretch or blur the picture depending on certian ports. As well tvs are natually 16:9 aspect ratio vs a computers ratio of 16:10. I find RGB (which is VGA) works very well. In fact that is the computer port on you plug into on all the modern tvs.

I believe I did try DVI to HDMI though and I was not impressed. Same goes with DVI to DVI. Like I said, it all has to do with the aspect ratios and the quality of the screen itself.

I might give into to subconcious peer pressure and go from a 15inch 1024x768, to a 20" 1680x1050.

With 12286 in 3dmark06 from my system <---, what frames can I expect from Team Fortress 2?
