bsod on vista install

hi! i've been building my new computer today. I was installing vista and suddenly i get bsod on a os install? i couldnt even believe it. I restart try to install os again and bam bsod again. now i have turned my fan speed up, but now it just freezes.

oh i forgot, it says that bootmgr is missing then i restart and start with dvd first. dont know if thats important info.

mother board:Gigabyte ga-ep45-ds3l
cpu: e6750
ram 2 gig pc6400
vista 64

what to do?

now it randomly reboots

Have you got an overclock on the system? Is your ram running at the rated voltage or is it set to auto?

Similar thing was happening to a mates computer the other day and it turned out the CPU was faulty but scan nicely replaced it :)

got a tip on overclock.net, that i should try to install with only one stick of ram and its going fine this far

Sounding more like its your RAM voltage then. What ram is it exactly Corsair XMS2?

If you have 4gb of RAM, early Vista installers will BSOD. Use 2gb or less.

got bsod again

its xms2 ram
adn the voltage is on auto 1.8 V

When you get a chance post the actual BSOD Error messages, it will help in the troubleshooting process.

i set the timings at 5-5-5-15(OCN tip)and that fixed it, im now installing drivers :awes

if its running at 1.8v it will bsod, ramp it up to 2v and i reckon it will work

Not really. Most PC6400 RAM needs 1.8v if not less to run at it's stated timings.

its running at 1.8 and when i pop in the other ram it freezes as on the install.
should i touch voltage?
