My case is an antec 300. It should fit the new mobo.

And the E7200 is only £20 more? I can afford that.

If you can afford it its definitely worth the cash.

when i upgraded from my dual core opteron 175 (also 2.2GHz) to my current system i kept my 8800GTS and the differences in FPS stability was unbelievable. You will not be dissapointed :)

            Re: Cpu

I personally wouldn't buy a E7200 right now, the E5200 and E7200 are too close together to spend extra on imo. In games the difference between 2mb and 3mb of cache is at most 2-4 fps when both are clocked to 2ghz, and it should be easy to get the E5200 to 3ghz.

If you really have a lot of money to spend, get a E8400. :)

I dont really have much money atall tbh, Absolutely no more than 170, I was hoping to save up and get somethign for christmas that wasnt pc hardware orientated for once ¬_¬

If you say the improvements are only 1-4 fps then i wont bother spending more.

How about the mobo, is it future proof?

The P5QL-E? as future proof as it can be, it has plenty of extra sockets. The only thing more you could ask for is Crossfire which would probably cost another £20 and dual GPUs is often more bother than its worth. You could always drop a quad core and another 2GB of ram in there down the line,
The next intel chip will be using a different socket completely so will require DDR3 and a whole new mobo. The chip alone is likely to be close to the whole of your budget though

OK, so i'll get what you originally suggested:

(wont bother with the p5qle if it doesnt offer any more performance)

Its going to improve my performence massively either way- I diddnt realise i wasnt even running ddr2, and i was pretty annoyed when i diddnt notice any performance increase when i upgraded from a 1950xt to a 4870 (ohno)

How well do you think i could run FC2?

                    Re: Cpu

I got FC2 this morning and i run it very high on everything with HDR and bloom On. Dx9 mind you..dont have vista..So you should be able to run it well..Its really not that demanding...I still think crysis looks better than it..Although the flames/explosions/sunset are good..But the textures are pretty bland...

You dont realise how bad things are with me, I'd have an orgasm just seeing TF2 on medium/high

                        Re: Cpu

Yeah the rest of your current system is definitely going to be a bottleneck for that graphics card.
I cant say exactly but here is a collection of charts showing a load of different cards performance in FC2. The CPU they used was an E8400 though so expect to drop down a couple of fps below what they have said however overclocking to the 3-3.5GHz level should pull some of the performance back. I cant promise you that cooler will be ideal for an overclock but i would have thought it will be ok as long as your not going to extreme levels. I would show you examples of slightly better coolers however the scan site seems to be a little messed up in the multi cpu coolers section atm :/. Some people recommend the xigmatic coolers however i have read that they dont perform so well because of the gaps between the heatpipes which touch the CPU, if it was me i would go for something from scyth or thermalright :)

one thing worth noting is that new motheboards only have a single IDE channel so you can only use 2 IDE devices which might mean u need a new DVD drive (depending on how your current ones are connected to the motherboard)

CPU and RAM look good to me. :)

No idea about the cooler though, its pretty cheap, but I have no idea how well it performs.

The P5QL is a P43, I really have no idea how that compares to P35/45 either.

                                With a 4870? That's some serious bottlenecking.
