Help pick a Motherboard

Hello all,

Well as the topic states. I figured out why my "gaming" rig wouldn't turn on, a bad mobo.

Now, I need to find a new one and I would really like to try and avoid another one going out after only 6 months of use.

I realize I should pick a motherboard compatible with my CPU and RAM. Well I have a C2D E6750 CPU and Crucial Ballistix 800mhz (PC6400) ram.

Please help me find an "reliable" motherboard for below $200.00 (US)

It's not too hard to find an Intel mobo with DDR2 and compatible with C2Ds.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...e=3879%3A27244 :) Filtered out all the non-P35/45 mobos, since you can plenty afford a good chipset.

Maybe the Gigabyte EP35/45 or the Asus P5K/Q series?

You won't need the P5N-D if you don't want SLI. The P5QL has a P43 chipset I'm not sure if that's better or worse than P35.

Between the P5Q Pro and the P5Q Deluxe Wifi, the only major differences I can find are the southbridge, wifi, and price.

Edit: Oh, it's a P5K, then I'd go for the P5Q Pro.

Well I'm just getting confused now.

Please help me understand this. The "memory standard" on a board is 800mhz with a "FSB" of 1333/1066.

Would that be compatible with my memory at 800mhz (PC6400)?

Yeah, it'll be fine. In reality the "FSB" is at 333/266 since the FSB is quad-pumped (multiply by 4). And PC6400 memory = DDR2 800 = 400mhz since it's double data rate.

Confusing, I know.

But why do you want the 750i mobo?

For the possibility of adding another card in the next few months. With my budget I can get 2 medium cards for less than any current "high-end" card.

As for the P5Q Pro, I noticed the standard memory is 1200 so I don't think that will work.

It'll work.

I mean, it won't hurt to have a mobo that supports faster memory. It will still support DDR2 800. I have a P5Q SE (supports up to DDR2 1200) and it works with my Corsair DDR2 800 just fine.

Example? im pretty sure this isnt true, you will usually get much performance with a single card solution, have less compatibility issues and pay less in the long run.

what cards is it your thinking of getting?

Stick to a P35/P43 (the main diff between these and the 45s is no crossfire support but they don't overclock quite aswell) or P45 motherboard.

just realised it has alot more if you press ctrl+f1 and you get all the advanced features, RAM latency adjustment custom power saving and a lot of other ive not had the chance to look at

P35 overclock usually to from 425 to 475fsb and p45 up to about 510fsb which is not much short most enthuisast boards
