A Dell 22" flatscreen would probably be your best bet. They are some of the best screens on the market today.

Was it just for your PC? Do you need a HDMI/VGA slot for PS3/360?

As Alex said I got a Dell 22' and I'm really pleased with it as my primary display.

Just had a quick look round,
Had a look at the Samsung T220, quite well priced, seems to have good specs

But then i saw the new Acer Gaming monitor, apparetnly its contrast ratio is 50000:1, it is a 24" and quite pricey, about £330, anyone heard anything about it?

I have the T220 and have been very happy with it, but I haven't really got a better monitor to compare it to; the reviews on it seems to range from only worth it for office work to best 22" ever.

Acer monitors use fairly low quality panels. If you really care about image quality, they are not for you. If you just want a large screen, go for it.

If you have the funds though I would go for a 24" since you have that 1920 resolution option that nearly all 22s do not.

Get one with LED backlit. It should last longer than lamp ones.

Some Acer monitors use very good panels. They are probably not available in UK. About 40% LCD panels are made in Taiwan, 21% in South Korea and 10% from Japan. Don't bet on Korean brands because they also buy panels from Chi Mei (No1 Taiwan panel maker). Japanese high-end monitors are definitely made in Japan, but they are extremely pricy. For people who care about "image quality," or more like color depth, bright and contrast, CRT still wins. No LCD beats SONY Trinitron tubes, and, if you're lucky, you can pick one up for free.

Ok, I'm now considering a 24", so the budget would go up for that, but i dont really know what im looking for in a monitor. Iv read a few things saying that monitors can be laggy for gaming, so you see everything a milisecond later in effect, but i dont know what causes this, therefore what to steer away from.

Response rate is what your looking for the lower the better. IIRC 2ms is the best you can get.
