E8400 to buy..or not to buy?

I really wan to buy a new processor, i am currently aiming at the E8400, its only for 112 GBP. I am going to stick with my 88GTX till Q4 2009. But my procs needs a change, mainly because i want something that is at 3GHZ, i do not want to OC, as well as i want one of those new NM chips.

Now i googled for new procs coming out in June 2009, not sure if its bogus or true, thats why i am asking should i just go ahead and purchase a 45nm chip that is the E84 or wait, honestly i am cant wait :p but whats your opinion on this?

I suggest a Q6600 since you have a good graphics card.

But, why the hell won't you overclock? I even wrote a damn guide.

I wouldn't wait for i7/Nehalem if you don't want a quad core.

Not overclocking is your own punishment. You'll go mad after a while thinking "How well will this OC?". 4ghz on air, c'mon. :)

Not overclocking an Intel chip is like buying a Ferrari and never breaking the speeds limit. You do not deserve one.

Obviously i have not posted the reason why, sorry, i meant Not OC right now I just want a procs and OC mebeh a couple of months later (i still have your guide alex lol, its in mah documents folder) I will OC the 8400 just not as soon as i buy it, i will get it, then wait a few months then prolly get a tuniq then OC.

Neways, a Q66, are you sure, i mean aren't C2D better for gaming?

With a 8800GTX, i doubt you'll notice the extra 1-2FPS a E8400 might get you.

And, more games are becoming multithreaded now. I know GRID runs better on a Q6600 than E8400 because of the extra cores. I see more games following this trend in the future.

Wait for Ci7. The advancement from E6600 at 2.8GHz to E8400 is at best 10% on gaming.

What about overclocking performance? 45nm should let him OC a higher percentage compared to the 65nm chip.

And just curious, is this a upgrade for the heck of it, or are you getting poor performance in games?

Wait for Ci7. The advancement from E6600 at 2.8GHz to E8400 is at best 10% on gaming.

You're not going to see any affordable mainstream Core i7's until mid/late 09, that's a way off.

I know you're quite rich Eagle, so go for a cheeky upgrade now :)

Go easy on the guy, if he doesnt want to overclock its not the end of the world. Iv taken my overclock of to reduce the power usage of my PC a little as im now paying for it!

If you are prepared to overclock i wouldnt bother with a new chip at all, i would just overclock what you have. it should hit 3GHz easily!

Hexus have suggested info about the i7. The price of the basic one isnt too bad but the new chipsets they require will start with a hefty pricetag i reckon. Im planning on waiting out for them.

I decided, and i am not that rich Alex, my uncle owns a hotel in london, Florida, and bahrain, and mah other uncle is the owner of Euro Motors Kuwait :P lol but i am most definitely not spoilt i saved up for my rig, bought my own phone with my own money, saved up for every component i every bought for my PCs (family and mines) as well as i saved up for a 26" TV for my PS3, the PS3 was the only thing that my parents paid for lol and my clothes ofc.

Btw i just get money from different members of the family every time i set off to Uni, it is given as a present instead of an actual gift.

I saw the Hexus site you posted B1scu1T, for the Ci7 i guess i will make that move in mid 2010. The E84s are dead cheap imho 112 quid c'mon its a steal! back home the E84s sell at 150 quid at least :s

I think what wizard was hinting at was there is no need to upgrade. You're not likely to be bottlenecked by your current processor and thus there's no need to spend the cash on something that will only give you minor improvements in performance. Sure, the E8400 is a great chip, but the one you have is no slouch by anyone's standards. And the reason "i really want a C2D stock clocked at 3ghz" is, in my opinion, not good enough to go and splash £112.

And if you just so have a spare 112 quid and REALLY want to spend it, I could think of far better and more useful things to spend it on. :)

But, like I said at the beginning, it's your money.
